    Rates (off the street)

I recently did a gig where my client passed the hat for me during my 20 minute routine. I wasn't going to be paid originally, but was pleasently surprised. From that I got another offer and am wondering how much to charge (he has asked for a price). I think it is the same length show, but I'm not sure. Will call him this week, and hoping to make a good impression decided to call upon the aid of you experienced performer types.
    Thanks,
    Eric

I got a couple responces and one said that some sneaky agents might be watching this board, so feel free to send me emails versus staying silent. All things helpful and related are appreciated.

If the man found his audience was happy to give you a surprisingly good hat, then surely that sets the benchmark for what you are worth.
I like to work when I like for whom I like, this is one of the few freedoms I have. It is the secret of what we have discovered as Street Performers.
If some-one wants me to do my stuff when they want, for whom they want, they have to pay at least what I think I can get when I'm doing my shit by myself in ideal circumstances.
And from my personal experience as soon as people are paying that much, double your prices, it will get rid of small annoying gigs and sort out who really appreciates your work. You may get less gigs but you'll have more dedicted clients. Good luck!
        Every-one should watch their drawers!

as fer rates...they really fluctuate...depending on when, where, for how many, and for whom....
          remember, a one hour gig should net you more than you'd make working for yourself for the time;
it takes to book, coordinate and negotiate.
          get there,set up and prepare.
          perform.
          schmooze,pack,get home.
a one hour show has to be better than 3-4 hours of workin the streets...
half at time of booking...the other half prior to performance.

I'm doing my gig in Vermont, 200 people outdoors party type thing. I am doing a short routine before dinner and a torch routine after. I probably should take into account my time hanging around between the shows. Food is provided.
            Hope that helps,
            Eric

If you liked the amount you got in your hat when they passed it, that could be a good starting figure, plus add at least half for the second show.
