Standup Club in Pittsburgh - Competition
Hello I am a stand up comic here in Pittsburgh. The Funnybone and I plan on
having a pretty big contest in June. Please read the details below. If you

PRIZES:
1st place - $6,000 plus a paid week featuring at the Funny Bone Pittsburgh
2nd place - $3,000 plus a paid week featuring at the Funny Bone Pittsburgh
3rd place - $1,000 plus a paid week featuring at the Funny Bone Pittsburgh
4th place - a paid week featuring at the Funny Bone Pittsburgh
TO ENTER:
Send a 1/2-hour video tape to: World Series of Comedy, PO Box 5856,
Pittsburgh, PA 15209, or e-mail funnybonejoe@aol.com with references (agents
you have worked for or your manager). You must e-mail names and contact info
(e-mail addresses or phone
numbers). The deadline for entering is April 1, 2003.
BASIC INFO:
There is room for 120 contestants. Once your tape has been reviewed or your
references have been checked out, you will be notified via e-mail whether or
not you are in the contest. If you are in, you will be e-mailed a copy of
the complete official rules, along with an entry form. Print out the entry
form, complete it, and mail it back along with your $100 entry fee.
THE SHOWS:
The contest will be held the entire month of June, on Friday and Saturday
nights. There will be 12 shows over the first 3 weeks of June: 2 shows on
each Friday and 2 shows on each Saturday. The 4th week will be the finals
weekend - June 27 and 28. Once you have sent in your entry form, you can
pick which night in the contest works best for you. You will only have to be
in Pittsburgh one night in June unless you win. Then you will have to come
back the last weekend in June. At the most you are looking at 3 days in June.
This will be done on a first-come, first-served basis. Once a night is
full, you will have to pick another night. If there are a few of you from
the same area, we will try to put you all on the same night.
THE FINALS:
The 1st place winners from each show will move on to the finals weekend.
These 12 contestants will perform on June 27 (6 in each show). The top 3
from each show on Friday night will move on to Saturday night. These 6
contestants will perform at the first show Saturday night, and the top 3 will
move on to the second show Saturday night. The final 3 contestants will do
30 minutes each at this second Saturday show, and the over-all 1st, 2nd and
3rd place winners will be decided.
THE JUDGES:
There will be a panel of 3 judges grading each contestant on three categories:
1) Originality (10 points)
2) Stage Presence (10 points)
3) Overall Performance (10 points)
So, the best score you can get is 30 points from the judges. The audience
will also get to judge each night, and the person who gets the most audience
votes will get 5 points added to their score. The judges will be local DJ's
and other business people. They will have nothing to do with the club, and
they won't be other comics. That way, they can just judge you on your act
and nothing else.
TIME:
First 3 weeks, each contestant will do 10 minutes. Finals week, Friday, June
27, each contestant will do 15 minutes. The 1st show, Saturday, June 28,
each contestant will do 15 minutes. The second show, Saturday night, the top
3 will do 30 minutes each.
TRAVEL & LODGING:
It is up to you to provide your own travel to Pittsburgh. The Funny Bone
will get you a discount rate at The Hawthorne Suites in Greentree-412 279
6300. They will provide a shuttle to the club if you need one. The Funnybone
will also be able to record your set on DVD and you can get a copy of that
for free. You will also be able to set up in the lobby and sell any CD's or
T-shirts you might have.
