Phyzgig, the Northeast’s largest vaudeville festival which takes place in Portland, Maine between Christmas and New Year’s, is now accepting performer applications for this year’s 15th edition.
While Phyzgig is a lot of fun, it is not really a money-making gig. There is compensation available, but there is no financial guarantee and stipends for artists are based entirely on net proceeds.
What the festival does provide is a wonderful chance to network with other performers, as well as great meals backstage, per diems for all artists, free merchandize, and a party atmosphere all week.
More information about how Phzygig is structured and an application to perform at the festival is available on our website:
All Phyzgig shows are variety shows featuring between 3 and 5 performers. We do not present full shows by individual performers. Vaudeville shows take place at Portland Stage Company (PSC), a beautiful 300-seat theater with full technical capabilities Phyzkidz shows take place at SPACE Gallery, a storefront alternative arts venue. Each year, every performer appears in at least one of each type of show with a total of 3 to 6 appearances over the week of the festival.
