World comedy Competition
This is similar to a posting I just made on the festivals/gig forum. But it's not just for buskers. It's for professional comedy-related acts.
There is a new comedy competition, and conference starting up for 2002. The website is not yet live. It is called the World Comedy Festival, and it is open to any performer with comedy in his/her act. There will be 10-city "audition" sites, which is the first round of competition. The final prize will be a contract at a Las Vegas casino showroom.
The "auditions" will be held between March and May. The cities are: LA, Phoenix, NYC, Atlanta, Seattle, San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, Dallas/Ft Worth, and Minneapolis - but the audition tour is not in this order. Each audition city is an airline hub, easily accessible to Vegas, and within a reasonable drive for the most U.S. performers. There will also be a comedy conference for a week in Vegas in August. There will be many comedy catagories, including jugglers/magicians -- essentially, variety acts. All info will be posted in the upcoming website - this will be a very big deal. A national-scope event.
Watch this forum for the website URL when the info goes live. I'm doing production on the 10-city tour, but I'm not doing the website or the marketing/PR. I'm just telling all of you so you can anticipate it.
