How to attract the best street performers

Hi there, apologies if this isn't exactly on topic. I work with a large city council in the north west of England and we'd like to attract the very best street performers to come here in summer. What would be the best policies we could put in place, or the most attractive offers, that would draw great performers to us? Any advice gratefully welcomed.
When we have worked out what we're going to offer I'll post the information here.
Are there other sites I should be aware of? Best,
    Gordon

I do street performing on visits to the UK. I'd be interested in finding out what you have in mind. Please reply to chris@mimealot.com or post your email/phone here. Thanks

              I'll be around the area..

              Greetings,

I'm actually doing to be doing some events in the North West of England in August at Muncaster Castle, Levens Hall, Keswick, all in the Lakes district. Perhaps I'll have the time to come by... depending on when and actually where you are.

to answer your actual question, I would say that some of the best things to attract street performers to a new location is a place to stay and food so that if the pitch doesn't work out, at least they're not out the expense of food and lodging. The worst thing to do is come out of a place with significantly less money than you went in with.

hope to hear from you soon

                Really good points by Paul

Working the scenes at Auckland Buskerfest that is big now has taken 10 yrs to establish

Check the acts, Have good accomadation, Pay them as well as whatever they earn in hats.
Get sponsorship & permits to use the best spots in the city for the shows..
Market the evnt so crowds are waiting when they turn up..flood the city with programmes so people know where to go to see each act daily, have free night shows that actually promote the event so even more people show up next day..
                Run 3-4 day festivals

link to some pics this year

Treat roving acts with the same respect you treat the big shows and remember they are just as important for festivals (and if they are good enough, they will totally hold their own on the pitches)!

Second all of the above - a place to stay, a place to keep large equipment that's near the pitch, food (we happily announce local restaurants or other sponsors in the show), and

*making the public aware that we are artists, not beggars, and they should consider tipping*.

We're heading over that way this summer and would love to be a part. 3-person aerial acrobatic show, on a free-standing rig that sets up in 10 minutes as part of the show.

                    Thanks for asking
