    Memphis in May?

Has anybody worked in Memphis during "Memphis in May" events? Do they allow street performers - or we need a permit or badge etc? If they do require a badge - who is the person to contact? Thank you.

Hey,I have played the last two years on Beale Street as a one man band. However I have been Banned from my spot this year. You must be booked by a Club owner to play on Beale street. You don't need permits for this. You can get a permit to play but it is on Main Street no electricity .My frined at the Butler street Bazar is looking fo some Buskers in the Brewery area near the train station. I will get contact info for him as soon as I can get in touch. We are tinitively tring to get a one man band fest together. Real Music not clowns. John Lowe

Hey Everybody. I just got turned on to this forum by a friend, and it is exactly what I have been looking for. I manage Butler Street Bazaar, Memphis's downtown, open-air market that features a farmers' market, art, food, crafts, music, games, and more. I would LOVE to have buskers come down and take part in the festivities. We are located directly above Memphis In May and in a prime area that is growing exponentially by the year. We do not require a permit, license, or anything of the sort......it is on private property. Unfortunately, we have extremely limited funds to pay performers at this time, but we welcome anyone who would be willing to come and work for tips and be a part of this experience; perhaps as we grow in the future, we will be able to pay. THIS IS A PLACE FOR EVERYONE!!!!
We want musicians, acrobats, jugglers, comedians, contortionists, etc.
So all you one-legged unicyclers who juggle fire while swallowing swords and singin' the blues.....this is home! COME ON DOWN!!!
For more info., please contact me at: 901.849.4325 or
          fairandhonest@yahoo.com
I'll look forward to meeting you. Be well.

It sounds great and I'm ready to go - BUT - I can't find any affordable housing in Memphis on the net, and there are no hostels there - does anybody know the city and could suggest an unexpensive place to stay downtown? Could any local buskers rent me a room or a couch?
