    NZ Summer tour potential Jan-march

Heres some info on NZ festivals Dec-April, nows about the time to plan

    Jodi Wright festpro@clear.net.nz
    Late Jan
    Christchurch Buskers fest
    10 days
    fee plus busk plus accom
Jodi’s got the biggest fest in the country.
She can afford to be as selective as she wants.
If she hasn’t picked you up after 5 years trying I’d suggest giving up.
    Hootmeter-9/ 10

    Jill Taylor <jill.taylor@ncc.govt.nz> (nelson fest)
    early feb
    fee plus busk plus accom
The weekend after the Ch-ch fest (if you don’t get in to ch-ch consider starting with this one)
A small fest with good patronage and great beaches to visit on offhours/days
    hootmeter 8/10

    Wellington street fest
    3/5 day
    fee and busk and accom

    "eric ngan" <ericngan88@hotmail.com>

Not sure about this one, it was marginalised last year as sort of a last minute add on to the Arts fest and performers were given stupid pitches while freelance performers had all the best tried and true pitches and could work obviously when they wanted.
Wellington's admin is very political and changes regularly so this contact may no longer be valid. (someone let us know if its changed)
    Hootmeter-variable.

"Pam Glaser" <pglaser@ihug.co.nz> (auckland fest) " <nicktrick@hotmail.com> Nick casts it
In Feb/march, 5 days I think, fee plus busk plus accom.

This could end up being the biggest fest in the country
well run and with a good groundswell of support from the locals
Only 3 years old but with the addition of night time gigs outside a bar down by the sea. (planning stages) it could get huge.
    hootmeter 8 out of 10

    Whangarei Buskers fest.
    2 weeks/ 2 shifts of cast
    fee plus busk plus accom
A small but good fest a week or so after Auckland.
Shamus runs it and I can’t find his e-mail anywhere.
    help me out

    ADDITIONALLY

    Helen Lay ..helen@greglay.co.nz Americas cup,
    Nov--2002/ march 2003
3 hour stints at $100 an hour is standard. (I think)
    You can busk as well
The companies gone belly up once and dumped all its performers unpaid but somehow still manages to retain its contract.
    Worth consideration.
    hootmeter 3/4 out of 10

    John Maybury <john@akl-showgrounds.org.nz>
    easter show (march/april)
    10 day gig
Probably already booked for 2003 but worth a shot.
Non busking relatively good fee by NZ standards

    A WORD ABOUT VISAS

You have to apply for a temp working visa.
(Jodi will get you one for her fest but that doesn’t entitle you to work elsewhere although she has experimented with nelson I think)
Some of the other fests are thinking of banding together and combining the admin but at this stage if you want to do the lot you have to do it yourself.

    You need contracts

    You need NZ $300 ($140US)

You need to contact your nearest NZ consulate

You need to contact NZ actors union (the hardest part- they never answer they’re just a bunch of shiftless unemployed soaking themselves in winebars-I mean that in a nice way)

I am fishing for a contact for them as everything else is straightforward and I’m sure it will not be too difficult and I’ll find a really co-operative person I’ll be able to share the e-mail of and he/she won’t hold it against you that I have nothing to lose by insulting them.

    Also
While in the area (sort of) theres the Fremantle fest in west australia in March.
    Google it.
good luck and will see some of you march. (then onto timor)
