Flying over Western Canada or not?

I was asked by two local orgs to offer up this gig possibility to artists working the Canuck circuit this summer. Basically, both the Winnipeg Fringe and The Forks (Riverfront market development) are looking for artists who would consider a stopover to do some shows and make some shekels during what otherwise might be downtime or travel time between Canadian festivals. The upshot is, if it fits your sked to add a leg to your air ticket and stop in for a few days, you could get some shows in.

The Fringe has a decent outdoor stage (2nd biggest fringe in Canada) but some artists who have worked it before have found that they couldn't get enough shows in over the ten days to make their nut. The producer is happily looking for top quality acts who could help fill his outdoor lineup by stopping by for two or three days.

If that appeals to you, the other gig possibility at The Forks involves them offering you a flat performance fee for shows in addition to your hat - The Forks is the only outdoor pitch worth working in the Venice of the Prairies - lunchtime is a gimme, evenings are untested except when a festival is on. You can get more current info on shows here from Robnut or Daniel C - both p.net posters who work the pitch. The Forks is looking for acts throughout the summer - not just during the Fringe.

I'm not booking it, but will vouch for the reputability of both orgs involved. You will have to cut your own deal if you're interested. You're welcome to email me privately w. queries and I'll get back to you as soon as possible - the kids festival I produce here is 4 weeks away so muted apologies in advance if I'm tardy or cranky. If you do cut a deal and come here, under no circumstances will my couch or dog be part of the equation - well, maybe my dog. If I'm in town, however, I might let you buy me a drink.

The contacts for this tantalizing opportunity are:
Winnipeg Fringe Festival, July 18 - 28, Bertram Schneider, Producer
    email: wh-exec@mtc.mb.ca Tel: (204) 956 1340
The Forks, June/July August, Tamara Rogers, Promotions
    email: tamara.rogers@tfnpp.mb.ca Tel: (204) 987 4352

    magnanimously,
    the young one

      Gweedo:
Since I'm not booking these gigs, there are sadly no "generous gifts of love" involved. And thank YOU for YOUR giving nature! It's nice that you sit with bug-head in the rest home day after day listening to his tales of yore ("as was the style at the time"). Tell him to call these contact people and come on up as soon as his hip heals.

Pity is almost as flattering as admiration.
