Attention All Buskers
CHICAGO’S NEW EASTSIDE ASSOCIATION is proud to announce preliminary plans for BuskerFest 02. CHICAGO’S NEW EASTSIDE is a not-for-profit organization that represents, among other things, the plazas that make up the commercial and residential city blocks between Randolph Street and Wacker Drive and from Michigan Avenue east to Lake Michigan. This is in the center of Chicago's Loop and adjacent to our theater district. We are proposing that BuskerFest 02 be held August 1st, 2nd and 3rd from 11AM to 7PM. All performances would take place in, around and under these plazas. We plan to provide 20 designated areas with plenty of room for walk-a-rounds, living statues, theatre groups, musicians, spectacle companies and variety performers of all kinds.
This is the first time Chicago would host an international buskers festival. Chicago has a population of close to 3,000,000 residents and a metro population of over 8,000,000. The New East Side Association has presented several events over the years and have attracted 75,000 to 100,000 visitors per event. We plan to double this figure in our first year. Our marketing will be extensive and will cover the entire metro area. Word of mouth will be very important and we hope by getting this message out early, you will help us accomplish this. Any help with performers lists, websites, or any other contact information would be very much appreciated.
As you know, Chicago has an extremely vital arts scene, as well as a world-class performing arts reputation. It is our desire that BuskerFest 02 will enhance this reputation and draw performers from around the globe. Stay tuned for further official announcements and updates. We are all very excited about this festival and hope that it will be received as a gift to the global community of street performers. Buskers rock!
