New Busker Festival in the States

Lawrence Kansas - home of the university of Kansas - is planning a full fledge street festival in it's historic and funky downtown area on August 22nd - 24th. This is the same weekend that over 30,000 KU students return and hit the streets before school starts.

We are looking for unusual acts that can make the trip and the commitment to a first time event. We have some money to cover travel and lodging but it is going quick so contact us as soon as you can.

Call me at 785-749-2226 or email me at rrenner@vodvill.com

You can see more about what we have planned at http://www.lawrencebuskerfest.com

    Lawrence Busker fest report.

Keep in mind, I've not busked in a variety of places.

    The Ugly...
    1. A larger share of stoners and burnt out loons than the pitches in Kansas City (and the little county fairs/festivals).

    The Bad...
    1. The lighting after sunset. Reduces the good pitches to approximately 10. 2. Booking nonbuskers (unsure how common that is).

    The Good...
    1. Awesome crowds, very responsive, and eager to watch a show. This seems to be the case during the nonfestival evenings, too.

    2. Tips were pretty damn good. If the booking price is right, and it seems to be, for locals, anyway (I didn't audition in time to get a paid spot), I bet it'd be worth a trip if you're within a 10 hour drive.

    3. The coordinator seems like a righteous dude.

I think we can see some great success with this in the future (especially if we can light up the nearby park!)

I had great crowds and great hats! My worst hat in Lawrence was better then my best hat ever! Yes I'm passed my infamous 100th street show. Maybe I'm just getting better at street. I've received fan e-mails including one lady who said she loved my show but thought my Brokeback Mountain joke was inappropriate. Guess even though it's Lawrence it's still the bible belt.

The only problem with Mass St it needs a bigger pitch. Or two. The only place to build a real crowd is in front of US Bank. Even there, there was no way for foot traffic to get through without going in the street. So far the city seems to be OK with that.

      Lawrence Rocks!

Sounds like Lawrence may be becoming a good place to work. Whats the broke mountain joke ?

            It was!

I look forward to it, next year.
