Be a part of the BIG Festival, June 21, 1:00 to 9:00 p.m..
There is a new festival taking over Bloor Street this summer, the BIG Festival, organized by BIG (Bloor Improvement Group). Bloor Street will be closed from Christie to Lansdowne on June 21, from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Yes, that is BIG!
BIG's intent is to advance the economic, physical, cultural and social life of Bloor Street by creating opportunities and events that improve and celebrate the area. This festival is our first major event. It is supported by 24 stakeholders, including the local Business Improvement Areas, residents groups and social services agencies in the area. We are planning to have two stages, to showcase local musicians. Preference will be given to musicians living in the Bloorcourt/Bloordale area, bounded by Dupont Street, Christie Street, College Street and Lansdowne Avenue. We are looking for a good mix of different genres, styles and nationalities, to represent the area.

There will be an opportunity to sell CDs and other merch.
Since this is our first event, we do not have a huge budget for talent (you knew this was coming, right?). On the other hand, we know people are really tired of being asked to play for free. There will be, at least, an honorarium paid to all participating musicians. Amount TBD since we are still waiting on some grants. Please be reasonable in your fee requests.
There will be an information meeting at the Long & McQuade Seminar Room, 935 Bloor St.W at 5:30 on May 6.
