    Need Canadian Acts...

This could turn into something very interesting...

The Provincial Government of British Columbia is in the process of planning for what is being called the British Columbia Canada House (Pavilion) which will be installed in Beijing, China. From what I understand this building/promotion is aiming to increase awareness about the Province of BC in the Asian Market Place specifically taking advantage of the Olympic connection between the Beijing Summer Games in 2008 and the 2010 Games in Vancouver/Whistler.

I saw conceptual drawings of the space which is to be located near Tiananmen Square in down town Beijing when I was in China between October 30 - November 10 and it looks very much like the sorts of pavilions that are created for World Expos.

This is still very much in the planning stages and I'm not entirely sure what the gig is going to be yet, but I've been asked to compile a list of performers who might be interested in hearing more about it.

    Dates: May 1 - 22, 2008 (soft Opening)
May 22 Official Opening by the Premier of BC
May 22 - September 30, 2008 Officially Open to the Public

My guess at this stage that there might be one or two performers brought in at a time and then contracts might be staggered though out the run.

Because of the connection to the Provincial Government it would be ideal if acts were all from BC, but the person who contacted me indicated that as long as the acts were Canadian that would likely be the only real requirement.

    Interested?

At this stage I've only been asked to come up with a list of people who'd be interested in the gig. Eventually I'll need Promo Videos (DVD) to show to the end client, but at this stage all I need is to create a mailing list of sorts of people interested in hearing more about this opportunity, so email me if you are interested and I'll throw you on the list and send out updates as they become available.

    Cheers,

    Doh!

    Greetings,

You're receiving this because you've expressed interest in hearing about developments and possible performance opportunities at the BC Canada Pavilion in Beijing. A few weeks ago the contract for handling entertainment was awarded to Vancouver based event production company PRP (Patrick Roberge Productions). In the time since being awarded the contract the team at PRP has had several meetings with the Provincial Government to determine the scope and nature of entertainment that will be provided at the exhibit space.

The first idea that seemed to fall by the wayside was the concept of a daily performance program which (had it actually happened) would have been ideal for folks who are familiar with working in a 'street/festival' environment. The decision was made that instead of doing an ongoing program the budget for entertainment would be used to produce a number of "Signature Events" only a few of which might require variety entertainers to be involved.

The latest word from the folks at PRP is that unfortunately it doesn't look like there is going to be a need for a variety entertainer component to the events that they've got in the works.

So... What started out as an opportunity full of promise has unfortunately evolved into a whole lot of nothing. For those of you who sent in promotional materials, I thank you for your time/effort and rest assured that I will keep this information on file for any upcoming performance opportunities, so you've likely not heard the last from me.

Many thanks to you all for your interest, sorry it didn't turn out to be something a bit more concrete.

    Warm regards,

    David Aiken
