. . . or not
actually, the May Day Parade is produced entirely by one non profit theatre, In the Heart of the Beast Puppet & Mask Theatre. Each year they struggle to make enough money passing their own hats to make the festival happen. While they welcome performers, they frown on anyone other than themselves passing the hat. If you plan to attend, please do contact them ahead of time, at hobt.org.
(I used to be on staff there & have helped run the festival for years, so trust me, it will make life easier for everyone)
Other festivals in Minneapolis I've busked at in the past are Grand Ole Days (1st weekend in June), 4th of July at St. Anthony Main. . . there are lots of outdoor festivals throughout the summer, I usually pick up the free City Pages paper & then go ask permission from the organizers if I plan to busk.
Stay away from Taste of MN -- they surrounded me with six state troopers and threatened me even after I had permission. . . also the uptown arts fairs are too crowded & no good space for shows.
Let me know if you plan to come -- it would be fun to meet you!Comment
