Simon Cowell & FremantleMedia, the producers of AMERICAN IDOL, are teaming up once again with NBC in the search for the hottest acts from across the country!

Talents of all kinds are invited to try out. Individuals and groups, singers, dancers, animal acts, novelty acts, burlesque, magicians, comedians, belly dancers....ALL AGES... you name it, you bring it!! Don’t miss out on your chance to win a MILLION DOLLARS and be a part of NBC HISTORY!

The auditions will take place in the following cities:
-Branson, Missouri- Sept.25th
-Las Vegas, NV- Oct. 3rd
-New York, NY- Oct. 11th

LIVE AUDITION GUIDELINES:
1. Prepare a 90 second routine AND a 90 second backup routine.
2. Singers are required to sing Acapella. No backing tracks. No Exceptions.
3. Musicians/ Rappers/ Songwriters: You may sing/rap to a track of an original work or cover and/or play your own instrument(s).
4. If your instrument requires an amplifier you will plug into an existing amp in the band room.
5. Bands: ¬ Basic equipment will be provided (for a list see below) You’ll be asked to plug and play.
6. Entertainers that require an amplifier will perform in the band room. You¹ll plug into an existing amp and perform.
7. Performers who use a backing track, (ASIDE FROM SINGERS), please bring a CD. We suggest you bring a copy in case there’s a problem playing the first.
8. No fire, sharp objects, weapons, or explosives (pyrotechnics) will be allowed in the audition. You may bring supplemental material (demo tapes/DVDs) to show us the parts of your acts prohibited in the audition process.
9. Any performer under the age of 18 must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian.

Never seen the show. I'm curious though. Why does everyone hate it? and if we are better than all the people on there why doesn't anyone get on just to win the million bucks?

Why I hate AGT

Because they make you sign - on applying - a huge release (wasn't it like 28 pages?) that EXPLICITY gives them the right to use your footage and their footage of you in any way they want, including, specifically, to humiliate or belittle you.

And it's not the best/most talented person who's winning, anyway. I think it was a 14 year old singer who won season one - it wasn't that she was a fabulous singer, it was that among 100 equally talented singers she was 14 and had a story that made her interesting to track for a season. One of the performers in my company auditioned for "So You Think You Can Dance" (I think the title expresses the show's attitude towards the participants, right there) and she said that they were pulling the people with pity stories out of the room of equally talented dancers, and she wasn't willing to manufacture bulimia, rape or child abuse for the sake of getting on the show.

We need performers, performers need an audience and that what this show provides is an audience. If you are looking for exposure for your act this is the show to appear on. Why not take a chance and get yourself out there to be seen by the masses. By the time the show is over and you get home people will know your name and face and that makes all the difference in ticket sales!

By the way, Bianca was actually 11 when she first appeared on the show and she didn't have a sob story...just talent!

The world most well renouned talent show why don't you guys take a chance and put some budget into your artist that are really risking it. And get some judges who know what they are talking about not just washed up celebrities scraping the bottom of the bedpan for a job.
Ever since American Idol came out and got the intrest of the public from Simon being a dick. ( you can tell him I said that) Every producer in LA LA land has been trying to get on the wagon to try to expose new talent. But are you really looking for talent, or are you just looking for ratings.

Decent Exposure

The problem I see is that, for the most part, to participate as a variety artist it would most probably take a professional act to be taken seriously by the judges. The chances of this show advancing your career after 20 years in the business probably won't happen. This will not be your lucky break.

If, however, you were just starting out, this show would be a great way to get some killer footage for a promo real (in my case I'd probably edit my act out and keep only the comments).

Btw, it didn't take a genius to figure out Bianca was going to win as soon as you saw her the first time ... she had what so few of us have ... a black woman living inside her.

Thank you for your kind acknowledgement of my expertise in the variety arts. Like the British judge, I had similar "directorial comments" that almost (to a tea) always mirrored his comments. Unlike him, however, I have learned (a la Avner & Kenny Raskin) how to convey that knowledge to the artist.

I guess it also helps dabbling in both the variety and music business for 30 years and working with all types of acts, so it would be easier to judge the participant’s level of skill.

And, of course, I'd be funny.

P.S. my neighborhood is littered with beat down pickup trucks and soiled briefs ... you should feel right at home.

Missing The Point

There's very little hope that a Variety Artist will win, because there's no way to exploit them unless they are so mega talented that a Las Vegas Show can be built around him or her, (or them)

What Simon and company needs is a singer with a storyline who can sell records and bring in beaucoup concert and royalty bucks. And besides, a Variety act has only so much material to present, as polished and amazing as it may be, while a singer just learns a couple of new songs, and can go on to have a career that lasts for years. (Rolling Stones, Tony Bennet, anyone?)

By the way, the show's called "AGT" not America Votes Talent, so do we really know who was actually voted for by the viewers?

Alice Cooper

I was listening to Alice Cooper's late night FM radio show last week, and he made a very funny comment about AGT and American Idol.

He said that almost all of the people on those shows think they'll wind up in Hollywood, but they just wind up on a cruise ship.
