August 11 - 20 will see the 2006 Calgary Fringe Festival decend on Calgary's busiest pedestrian street - 17 Ave SW (Known as the 'Red Mile)

Come join the mahem and the excitement. We are looking for street performers who can entertain large crowds.

[Dan, a balloon man]

I contacted the folks in Calgary and they wanted an astronomical amount to come and work this event. The guy quoted me $1000.00 for an 8x10 spot. I indicated to him that I was a "portable" balloon man interested in busking, but he said it would still be $1000.00 for the event. When I compare it to Edmonton's Fringe (a little over $200.00 for the whole 10 days) I found it to be out of the question as far as busking goes. Just thought I would share!!

We only charge vendors (individuals or businesses who sell products and do not perform) $1,000. Most categories we charge less than $25 day for performers and buskers (even that is partially refunded provided you don't go over your time allotment and interfere with the next performers time slot)

Then the guy that was answering your phones gave me some misinformation. I explained my situation to him and he still insisted that it was $1000.00. Maybe it would be worthwhile at the rates of $25/day.
