Thank you for that courtesy, Scott, and please note that I, in turn, do my best to tolerate your posts, even though each one comes with a picture that singlehandedly defines "cheesy".

I guess he still didn't catch the joke Scot, but I thought it was funny. Even funnier is how many times I've had to make that same statement to you...

I don't think this "owning" USED to be the case. I did Steve Harvey Show (when it was just a demo show, not the 'voting' competition) and there was no such contract clause - but they weren't 'creating a star' out of the guests at that time. In fact, we were 'guests', not contestants.

I also was part of the original "Laugh Across America" staff who traveled the USA looking for comics for the Las Vegas Comedy Festival. I was the production manager. This was in the planning stages YEARS before American Idol came out; we began our tour the exact week AI first aired.... there was a long contract with that one also. Some auditionees didn't sign because the contract was so odd; they walked out.

There's a whole different deal when there's a competition attached, as well as television/publicity rights, as well as future contracts. People just smell money coming! Ugh.

        My ethical response,

        Lauren

          No Scott I wasn't offended.

I was just offering some info that some people might not think about.

I know as an agent/talent buyer myself that I have a clause in my contract that states any business arising from the performance I have hire the performer for, for the next three years from the performance date, shall be booked through me.

These are for festivals, fairs and corporate type of events.

Like I said, not everybody would have seen this type of clause in a contract before and therefore is important info to some people and is not obvious to some. Duh.

There is a big difference between Today and Pop Idol.

            Kerching! I agreed with somebody.

But cynical journalist who want to make a name for themselves can be as stupid as Simon Cowell, except in Simons case it is just light entertainment, in their case they are trying to pass it off as serious journalism.

The British Bias Broadcasting Company has a lot to answer for in my opinion...
