Make an autobiography. Then, read it.

Scot, even you are smart enough to realize that a successful bait has to have some kind of context -- and yours doesn't have any. Or is it you figure p.net isn't useful for anything besides sensless flame wars?

      Just asking.

Me, I'm going back to organizing my summer festival program.

        caution

Their 'rider' should concern you -- it gives them the right to use your promo tape on the air without further compensation. ( see below). Don't give away your rights.

They contacted us and asked for our promo. We sent it without thinking. They never told us about their disclaimer or directed us to their website. Does that mean we have been duped? Will we be seeing our promo on TV now? hmmm.....

They want us to do their show. I would much rather get a fee. I would feel bad for the other talent not getting a dime. lol.

Don't feel bad. Take care of yourself.

You haven't been duped. Big media companies like this often have extremely one sided agreements like this in order to protect themselves. The purpose generally not to take away your rights. They will probably not use your materials without your permission, and you probably would still have the right to sue them if they did. Don't worry about it. If they like you, they'll have you on the show. If they don't, they're going to throw away your video.

I don't see any negativity of this nature about other shows ... say like ummm ... "The Gong Show".

$10,000 is a nice size prize, sure you could get a thousand to just perform and not compete, but I don't think too many street performers land $10,000 gigs on a regular basis.

As for the disclaimer, I'm sure the lawyers just dropped that in there. I seriouslly doubt they will air your footage and then not put you on the show, and if they do put you on the show it would be good to air your footage although they will most likely use footage they themselves shoot.

I've seen the show, and when I first saw it said "that'd be a kewl show to get on" ... it's very well done. Would love to submit my video!

This is a quote from Steve Harvey about upcoming episodes.

"There's going to be a lot of what made the show a success last year, but we're also adding a segment for all those people who really have no business sending us tapes in the first place. I'll also be doing a monologue at the top of the hour. So, yeah, we'll have comedy, a talent search, and some pop artists stopping by."

Sounds like they are airing tapes without bringing on the talent to the show. Thats VERY cheap for them. No flight, no hotel, no 10 grand.

Of course, they are probably only showing tapes of some bizzarre nut that is doing something they shouldnt be doing. Wait, that could be any one of us.
