Is it just me that feels really sad that variety on TV has come down to crappy competitions like this trying to use people like us to make their show cheaply?

I know most of us get offers like this every so often and it never fails to make my heart sink and the bile rise in my throat..

    ok, venting over...

      Reality bites

"Reality shows" are essentially the same thing... jump off a cliff, eat live bugs, and act like an idiot for the camera and maybe you'll win some money. It's all pretty dumb, but so is most TV.

Remember, you can always turn it off and do something else. Read a book, walk the dog, or visit performers.net and start a new topic.

No, it's different - most reality shows feature "normal" members of the public who just want to be on TV - losers, obvously, but there you go..

This kind of talent show crap is different because we're all professionals, so if someone books you to be on TV they pay you, that's how it works - but people like Steve harvey's Big Time don't pay a fee but expect people like us to jump at the chance to be on tv and win money, missing the fact that many of us have been of tv, a gig for which we usually get paid - wait for it - big money!

i agree that we shouldn't watch - and i don't - but this is saddening not just from a viewers perspective, but from that of a professional entertainer. the attitude of the producers of shows like this is patronising and cheap - do they really think we don't realise that they're using us to fill airtime very cheaply?

Whenever someone comes forward with an offer like this they should - in my opinion only - be told that when they do their jobs for no pay, that's when we'll do ours for no pay.

Wait - I just realised that i did a whole rant without swearing.

        cock-juggling twunts.

        there, that's better.

Let's say there are 10 performers on the show. That makes each person's fee average to $1,000 plus travel for seven minutes. I don't see that as cheap considering I've heard of performers doing a major talk show for $300 plus travel.

TV Shows should be paying for travel, accomodation & A FEE. hence a show just paying travel & accom is doing it on the cheap.

And as for performers who have done major talk shows for $300, maybe they decided to do it for the exposure or a decent showreel, but $300 for network TV is very low. My experience is that often those lovely TV people think we're desperate to get on TV and use that to pay very little.

Having said that, the people at Steve Harvey's Big Time have told be that they do pay a fee - even though previously I was told that they don't - so when I find out a definate yes or no I'll post it here.

Now lets all go and look at Paddy's new website and tell him how young he looks in the photos..

                  They do pay a fee!

                  Hi,

                  My two cents:

After doing this show, I can confirm they do have a budget (a very high one) to pay performers a fee.

You just have to negotiate really well.

                  Hope this helps.

Appearing on "Steve Harvey's Big Time Challenge"

I understand your concerns as performers in regards to getting paid and self-promotion. But let me assure you that our guests are well taken care of and it is a very good way to promote your act.

Just to clarify, there are only 5-6 contestants per show which gives you a better chance to win the $10,000. And hey a free trip to L.A. + self-promotion + a shot at 10 grand...that ain't bad!

If you are interested in being on the show please send an email with a description of your talent to: bigtimeap@yahoo.com

                    Thanks

                      Tell ya what let's do.

Bring me over via 1st Class, toss in limo service and a 5-star hotel, and then pay me my standard fee on top of it. Something with at least 4 figures.

And then, if I win the Ten Grand (that's 5 figures), I'll donate the entire amount to the Tsunami Relief Fund.

My contact info can be found in my profile. But call soon, as my summer calendar is filling up fast!

                        C'est la vie

I sent them an e-mail last week. No reply yet. Good thing I already have a very full calendar of paying gigs to keep me busy, otherwise I might resort to robbing convenience stores and senior citizens.

                        Just kidding.

I did the show shortly before they changed the format it was a quite pleasant experience to say the least
They brought me down 1st class from Canada
                          Limos every where I went
It was a 5 star hotel in Hollywood
And on top of it I did get “Something with at least 4 figures.”
And I think that had I been on the show after the format change I could have walked out with the 10 large……… but a grand in the hand as they say

But … BigTimeAP if you want to have me back next season I think I would like to take a shot at the 10,000
