    Hi from Comic Character Creations

Hi all. We're a street theatre company from London, UK. We specialise mainly in walkabout interactive character comedy - some call it 'mix and mingle' I think. We have a strong clown influence but are currently developing a new piece using Commedia techniques. Our most recent performance was the Milan Clown Festival 2009 in February this year.

      hi folks!

your act sounds awesome! I've always wanted to do the Milan Clown festival, missed it by a month when I was in Italy last year. What's it like?

Hi Rachel and Kate. Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you! I've been a bit too involved with 'Freetannia' to be online much.

Milan was very interesting. I'd never been to Italy before and I had been told Milan was not typical - my first impressions were that the entire city is a building site! There seemed to be a lot of construction work going on and much of it really major.

The festival is the creation of clown Maurizio Accattato and his band of, mainly young, clowns 'Pronto Intervento Clown'. We were were very well looked after and housed in a local hostel. The festival itself was not in the centre of the city but in an area called Isola. I enjoyed this as it allowed me to see the real city and local housing estates as I'm not a typical tourist and prefer to know what the 'real people' do day to day. The crowds were pretty much wonderful, particularly on market day and we got a very good reaction. I felt very welcome and looked after and our hosts could not have been more hospitable!

We are a commercial company and normally work on a booking basis. We were invited to do the festival and saw it as a showcase, so did it on the understanding we would not be paid. When we arrived we discovered from another performer that most shows were 'hat' shows and the gig works on the basis that the performer keeps 90% of the hat and the festival the rest. The festival itself doesn't receive major funding. Of course our show is not suited to a hat, as we mingle with the public and so we could not collect. Doh!

I hope it's o.k. to add video here! This is a 1min clip of our new show...
