So I’m ivan….

A few people here know me a little , some better than others… so this is for them what don’t know me…

Lots of rumors about me:

Ivan wanted to be a priest.
Ivan married a lesbian.
Ivan was a sharpshooter.
Ivan can tapdance.
Ivan is afraid of fire.
Ivan is well educated.
Ivan is drew carey’s illegitimate love child
Ivan is john Goodman’s illegitimate love child…

Then there is… he can breathe trough his ears, he married loki at a hand fasting ceremony in Vermont, he’ll punch you at the drop of a hat, he drops hats all the time, he got beat up at a festival, he smokes because he hates fresh air, he hates sushi, he has 10 tattoo’s , he’s insane, his momma don’t dance and his daddy don’t rock and roll, he’s afraid of crowds, he is a babe magnet, he doesn’t drink, he has a hell of a temper, and he’s very touchy about his show , he cannot spell….. The list of rumors is long

Some of those are true,

I’m a performer, I specialize in being very fat and sweaty, I’m part of the troupe Ash circle…. Im the guy who yells at the crowd while the talented one does most of the stuff.. It’s a pretty sweet deal really.. My first professional performance was at a tiny thing for a sail boat festival… then a few weeks later we were in Halifax Buskers Festival …. that’s where I cut my teeth on performing.. We really didn’t do actual street shows until last year in Ottawa, but we had done quite a few festivals, and fairs, and corp’rate stuff… I did my first solo show last October, and I much rather prefer to work with loki ( rick) in the ashCircle act…maybe it’s because it’s easier, maybe because it’s more fun, maybe it’s because he take care of all the equipment…

Funny , but before loki introduced me to it I had never thought twice about Busking, I had seen a few before, in passing, I watched scott free once in victoria… and been annoyed by street musicians… but before loki roped me into it….I didn’t think too much about it…

Now I have to say some of the people who inspire me the most are street performers … lee zimmerman, ryan whalen, UCO… just to name 3, I look forward to seeing other performers, other shows , and learning as much as I can…
So if you see a 400lb skinhead breathing fire , the chances are it’s me .. So say hi ….

here's the thing

really,

no performer is my illigitimate love childe, ( my lawyer has made me write that )

but it warms my cockles to have the people i look up to say nice things about me ...

it's nice having warm cockles....

and it's kinda humbling when i look at the performers and people like mommak who have taken notice of me... and even more humbling to consider that they may consider me a friend...

it saddens me that they dont send me fruit baskets, or t-shirts, or candygrams..... but i know they do their best...

With the exception of Robert, I have met each of the people who have posted on this thread…

And I feel the urge to write something today.. Soooo

Here are some of the memories that comes up when I think about them…. In reverse order… centering around my favorite subject, ME!

Jimbo: At Brockville, early in the morning, during breakfast , in the sun… we were talking about accidents during performing.. Jim related the story of a guy who, during an escape routine hurt himself badly , knocked himself out, blood everywhere…. I was staring at the ground, smoking, waiting for my froot loops to sog in their milk ( I like soggy cereal). I was tired, and sore.. And grumpy.. I was in that half world that happens with too much work … too much stress… and I was only half listening… when he was done talking I had a thought, a question… and because I was on auto pilot.. I asked it.. Without thinking if it was a good question… or an appropriate question .. So I asked “ How was the Hat?”….

I think that was the moment I had really stopped being someone who did this for a hobby and crossed that last line.. I still don’t know if the performer in the story is okay or not… but I do know.. What my priorities are… weird…


Daniel Craig: first time I saw dan, I was on a tram in some airport on the way to Singapore… without knowing who he was , my first thought was.. “ this guy is a pretty boy “ and I hate pretty boys….but dan turned out to be more than transportation for good hair, impeccable clothing, and spiffy technical gear… he came with us to an island in Thailand… before we left I have a picture of this pretty boy… bad hair, needing a shave, wearing a borrowed sarong.. Leaning to the side because he was hung over from repeated buckets of rum/coke/and redbull.. And probably kept awake with fear of invisible cockroaches … as pretty as he was… he wasn’t a pretty boy…

Later dan shared some great advice about performing that we worked into the show and increased our bottom line a huge amount… and helped me to change my habit of quick judging performers..now I don’t decide if I hate another performer until I’ve worked with them enough to see if the first impression has changed ( and it has, some for the better some for the worse )

Seamus: Loki and I have produced 2 vaudeville shows… during the first open call ryan came and did a funny bit.. Then learning that another performer was coming in .. said that the other guy was a great juggler… we hired ryan… I realized then .. That some performers have incredible integrity… and they are still successful .. Ryan is to this day one of the few performers I would never hesitate to hire, work beside, or recommend to anyone… not just because I can trust him, or because I actually count him as a friend.or because he is funny and talented. But because he wears a white vest.. Only good guys wear white… right?

Oh , and the best quality of ryan… he will never hesitate to tear down this one specific juggler, and man! If there was a hate club for this guy, ryan would be the treasurer…

MommaK: gave us our start, had never lied to me, is cute and fun, and amazing… I can’t say enough good things about my buttercup so I’ll shut up, less is more in this case. I get to light her on fire sometimes.

Dan Tastik: Dan is a good dancer, and a babe magnet… he talks to me when no one else is online… I have decided that if I could, I would bring dan over .. For beers and pizza… I don’t know too much about him.. He lives on the other side of the world.. And he has partnered up with ryan… that speaks volumes.. He’s kind, and patient, and drinks his morning coffee like a millionaire …

Then there is Butterfly Man: who I have never met… but has taken time to say hi , and make me feel welcome.. I read his thread in the who’s who.. And I liked it a lot .. I wanna meet him.. I wanna see him perform..
