    New (old) performers.net (2024)

    Hey everyone,

Welcome to the old performers.net in a NEW location! Here's the story:

I started performers.net back in late 1996, upgraded it in 1998, then upgraded it again in 2000 to the forums you see here. Everything was going fine until about 2009, when traffic started moving to Facebook and the forums kind of faded. I kept things running on the forums until 2015, but the robot/spam pressure got out of control and I just turned everything off. In 2018, the forum software officially died on my server and I thought everything may be lost...

In 2018, I approached Nick at busk.co and asked him if he had any interest in trying to resurrect the forums and he said he'd give it a go...

Well, it took a few years, but he got it working!

As of today (August 19, 2024), the original forums are hosted at busk.co and are in a "read-only" state because the software is ancient and un-secure. However, if you have interest in this whole thing being LIVE again, please message Nick or reply on the Facebook group and if the response is good, Nick will upgrade the forum software to the new (secure) version and this place will come back to life.

For now, everything should be working well enough to be able to browse all the busking history back to late 2000!

    Thanks for stopping by!

As of September 25, 2024, Nick has completed the forum software upgrade and the site is now live again. Henceforth, the site will only be referred to as "p-net" ("pee net") because it now officially resides on his server "pnet.busk.co" and performers.net, the site I started in 1996, is now history. Long live p-net.

I have done some housekeeping, merging a few forums into one another and streamlining some layout. None of the old threads are gone, but they may have been moved. Everything should easily be found with a general search.

For now, I am the sole moderator of the site, so let me know in this forum if you have any technical issues. If things get too busy around here, I may ask for MOD help. Let me know if you'd be interested in helping out.

FINALLY: PLEASE DON'T REGISTER UNDER A NEW NAME IF YOU ALREADY HAVE AN ACCOUNT. If you can't log into your old account, send me an email: ( thejimshow at g m a i l . c o m ) and I will send you a temporary password to log in again.

    Welcome BACK!!!

    -Jim

Yeah, I'd have liked to keep the name as "performers dot net", but that would be confusing, considering that's no longer the URL of the forum. So, we decided to go with the format they chose for the Facebook group where the old timers have been hanging out, called pnet.

Fingers crossed it all works and vBulletin's new spam software stops the forum being full of bots. Welcome back everyone!
