    User/CP Ignore list

    All,

Although the feature is not quite as nice as a .killfile for USENET, I will point out the "ignore list" functionality that can be found in each of our user profiles. I prefer the killfile because it makes the offending user disappear from my universe completely, whereas even though the ignore list hides the posts, it still leaves behind their smelly footprints.

Jim, is there a way or setting that can be made so that members included in the ignore list don't show up on threads at all?

And to those who feel like getting huffy over me pointing out this feature, do this:

Click on the USER/CP button at the top of the page.
Click on "edit ignore list" (it is the next to the end at the top)
Type in the first field "Steven Ragatz" (without the quotes)
    Click the "Update list" button.

    Cool!

    Steven,

I didn't even realize this feature existed. I've been using this system for over a year now and I continue to learn new things all the time.

I looked into the possibility of ignoring a member completely and it's not possible with this version of vBulletin. (Not sure if it's possible with any version.)

Still, it is definitely a COOL feature as it is. For people with tendencies of taking bait that others leave laying around, this could be a nice little deterrent. You still know a person posted and you can click and view the post if you really want to, but the text of the post is hidden so you're less likely to stumble into a flame war.

As the admin, I don't really have the luxury of being able to selectively shut members' comments out like this, but I will recommend it to certain people in the future when things (almost surely) heat up again.

    Thanks for uncovering this!
    Jim

To make me come back - all you have to do is ask nicely...

          and...

edit the list again, delete my user name from the dialog and update the list as before. You may need to log off and log back into the site or force the browser to refresh the pages depending on your local settings.
