    problem accessing threads

    Jim,
I cannot access any threads that are not on the main forums page. when I go to a specific forum, the thread subjects are blank, and there are no arrows on the right side of the threads. I was on a friends computer and had access. I have dial up on my computer, the other computer was cable, if that helps?
    Thanks in advance,
    Larry

    Larry,

I have no idea. I have not experienced any such display problems. What browser are you using? Is it still happening?

Could you send me a screen shot of what you see in your browser window?

Try accessing the site on your computer/dial-up setup, but with a different browser. See if you still have the problem.

    Are you Mac or PC?

I look at the site on a Mac and cross-check the layout with the latest versions of Explorer, Firebird, Opera, Safari and Camino. They all look pretty much the same to me. I even looked at the site with Explorer 4.5 and it looked OK.

Try emptying the browser's cache, clearing your cookies and quitting/restarting it.

No one else has reported this problem. it must be something to do with your browser.

    Jim

      Jim,

I too have trouble accessing the threads from the main page. Only way I can view threads is by going to "View Posts Since Last Visit".
Just FYI since there's probably nothing you can do about it. Most of the time I'm viewing from behind a fire wall but I never had trouble before the change. No problems viewing from home so no big deal I guess.

        Which is it???

Larry said he can access threads from the front page, but not in the forums and Richard said he can can't access threads from the front page, but can from the "View new posts" link.

Please post a link to a specifc page and describe what you see on that page.

Richard, are you SEEING the links, but can't click on them? Or is it like Larry described and you see BLANK thread subjects.

It sounds like there's two different situations here.

        Jim

        Screen Shots would help!

          Ad blocking software?

Do either one of you guys have ad software? There are no ads here, so don't worry, but I just saw this in a tech support forum...

I have a user that has a problem viewing the actual names of the threads that are clickable. The normal threads are blank. The links to the user/thread starter are visible, however.

Any suggestions? The user says he is running Windows 98, IE 6 and has AdSubtract active.
          Reply:

Have him deactivate AdSubtract. I have heard of problems with this before.
I don't know what adsubtract is, but if you have it, try deactivating it.

          I'll keep working it this.

I can see the links but when I click on example Blah, Blah, Blah I get nothing. Can't actually view the posts till I go up to "View Posts Since Last Visit" or "Todays Active Topics." I can't start a new topic or research past posts.
Again this is probably more my problem than yours but I'll try to e-mail you a screen shot.
            Thanks Jim

Richard, you say this is a problem at work, but not at home?

Please explain your setup at work and at home...

              Computer? OS? Browser? Internet connection?

Larry, this info would help from you, too.

I turned off the ad blocking on my internet security as suggested and it worked. Thanks Jim!

I have no idea why ad blocking software would mess with the display of the forums, but apparently it does.

Maybe the templates this forum software uses and the layout/placement of banner ads has something in common. When the ad blocking software sniffs around the forums, it thinks the threads are ads and removes them. That's kind of impressive, actually.

                    Now we know.

Richard, let me know if you have some kind of ad blocking software on your work system. I have a feeling that's probably the issue.

I just assumed it was from all the porn people post on this site. Although I was able to view Janet's boob.

To my knowledge there's no add blockers but what do I know. It's just weird it worked before but not now.

Guess I'll quit, move the family to the big city, and take on a real job.

                        Thanks anyway Jim.

                          same problem over here

                          Jim, guys, --

Here in Lisbon I have been using maybe 4 different cyber cafes over the winter. At one of them certain pages/threads of the new boards get refused from viewing (only in the blah-blah section, so I assumed it was a profanity block), with a local screen flag that says "this establishment has requested not to have this content viewed...", and then the screen goes totally white.

At the other cafes I can read all the profanity I like.

                          Maybe that helps??...
