I'm interested in this topic as I've been keen on adding to it (even touring investigatively and logging in with details)
I suppose the prime consideration would be defining 'Relevant details'
What have you been thinking Jim?...and others.
Pitch size/ audience capacity
Pitch rotation system (if any)
Local acts
Permits
Local accom.
(please add...)
I'm aware also that there are two distinct opinions regarding info. One informal 'inhouse' where good pitches are guarded to preserve whatever status quo exists, (or to at least slow its eventual decent into feast or famine seasons where pitches are alternately overpopulated or relatively empty, cough* copenhagen*cough)
and the other opinion which personally i favor which is that its the street, nobody owns it, change happens, everything eventually will be taken from you, life is a rancid well of bitter regrets, repugnant clarity and a strange everpresent forboding (But I digress)
Anyway I think its a great idea, lets contribute.
By the way Jim... Stirling effortComment

Martin,
I know the content will be filled in, and I have a vision of what it would look like and how it would work. I'm just trying to find the time to learn how to program the backend.
I'm thinking about a form based template. Each pitch would have a page and the forms could be filled in collaboratively. I have a list of about 20 different fields that could be on each page.
I can visualize what I want to build. I just don't know enough about database programming yet. I've been playing with it and I'm learning, but it's a bit more than I have time for right now.
I would love help if there's anyone out there with a strong working knowledge of PHP/MySQL. I have the design done, I just need the backend programming and integration with the rest of the site (and the other half a dozen things I'd like to add to performers.net.)
Talk to me.

Jim,
Since you are using V-Bulitin for the site, you are using MySQL for the back end database. It isn't difficult to setup a flat database storing location information for pitches. If you wanted to pass that info to a graphical interface like the one mini proposes from the jugglingdb site, that would be possible as well, although I don't see the practicality of it. Still, it is very sexy and fun to spin the globe around...
Take a look at the MySQL primer that the V-Bulletin site points to. You can find all of the JavaScript that you will need to access a MySQL database by scouring some of the V-Bulletin source pages. I would keep it simple at first, particularly if you haven't done any database work before. But, I wouldn't consider the task (as described) to be a particularly difficult one. If you run into any snags, feel free to contact me.

Jim, I've been lurking here for a while and not posting much ( cause I don't do street and I'm still working on my material ) but I do know some PHP and SQL. I'm by no means an expert, but I have a lot of other coding experience so I can pick up stuff quick, and I could do with some portfolio projects to help out on. I'd be happy to donate some work. Let me know how I can help.
Perhaps a more general database would be a good idea with a new forum section to throw out ideas for a while. Most open source group projects work best if they are discussed in fair detail publicly before any real coding. So maybe we could put up somewhere to brainstorm what people would like to see in a searchable database. Ie in additions to street there could be agencies, schools, non-hat festivals, performers, etc.

Jim,
My name is Kenneth Kahn (aka Kenny the Clown). I'm still trying to figure out how this forum works. If you, or anyone else want to give me any advice of tips, please feel free.
I work at Fisherman's Turf (I mean Wharf) in San Francisco. It's a jungle out here. The problem(s) as I see it, is the performers are too teritorial, and the cops ignore the bullying, and then come down on everyone as though we are all criminals.Comment

i do PHP
hey jim -
I program in php / mysql all day long for things including my own performance site. Im no expert but I can probably figure out or even tell you what it is that you need to do - as long as you have a copy of dreamweaver the basic functions that you'll need are built right in more or less.
