    "Who's Online" list thingy

Jim, I was just wondering if that would be possible on p.net, as a lot of forums show who's online at that particular time, and it's kind of groovy to know.....

I worked on installing a hack for "Who's Online" before with no success. Newer versions of this forum system have it installed (along with other cool features) but they cost money and right now, I'm not ready to purchase a whole new system.

I have a few projects in the works for performers.net right now and I hope to have them implemented after the new year. I may have some new forum stuff going by then, too. Stay tuned.

Okay, but wouldn't the "who's online" thingy tend to discourage lurking? And if lurking is an acceptable and venerated tradition... just a consideration. Or would it only reveal who was logged onto Perf.net?

No one said lurking was a problem. I don't mind lurkers. I wish more voices would join in and add to conversations, but I'm just happy people are using this site... whether they post or just read. This summer I had many people approach me to thank me for running this site... the majority of them were not registered members and they had never posted, but all of them said they check the site several times a week. I know that far more people read this site than are registered.

        ------

Some of the "Who's online" things I've seen will list registered members who are currently browsing the site and will list the non-registered people as "guests." It will also give a total number of people at the site at one time. It's a neat feature, but not worth $200, if you ask me.
