    Ignore and buddy lists

    Jim
I tried to ignore myself but sadly your setup wouldn't let me.
(this is in the profile pages for everyone else)
What are these facilities of ignore list and buddy list.
Can you undo them? to what extent can you ignore people?
Whats a buddy and where can I find one?
Its new ,its mature, its new digital indifference.
I love it ,show me how to use it oh great cyber relationship architect.
Congrats on all the improvements and this whole site generally Jim.

Ignore and buddy lists are solely for the 'Private Message' function of the new system. The private message system is probably the most redundant thing on these forums. I'm still trying to figure out why it exists. There is no notification that you've received a PM, unless you've specified to be notified by email, and even then, the person could have just sent you an email and saved a step.

I guess it would be good for people who don't have their email addresses publicly displayed... you could send them a private message which they could read within the site. But then there's that problem of not being notified you have a PM waiting for you. You need to log into your profile and check for PMs. Oh well.

If anyone has figured out a significant use for PMs, let us all know.

If you want buddies, you can add every name you see to your list and call them 'buddies.' They'd become instant virtual friends you can send PMs to... and those 'buddies' can then put YOU on their 'ignore' lists to stop getting your messages.

Another new feature is that you now have the ability to change your screen name on your profile page. Your 'login name' stays the same, but now you can change your 'displayed name.' I haven't tried it yet. So Martin, if you really want to be ignored, try changing your screen name to Trevor or something of equal value.
