    The Gigs section

I'm thinking there might be a need for another category in the Gigs bit. I was brought up to think of a gig as a professional engagement, not a competition or a "pay for the right to take my own risks" opportunity (?).
I'd like to suggest we have a category titled "Competitions, Busking opportunities and Other Unpaid (but possibly useful) Stuff".
It would allow people like "Harbourfront" to post more accurately, thus saving them from acerbic replies.

I thought about this a little more and perhaps we could use a section simply called "Auditions".
A lot of us would be interested in more news about auditions outside the "busking, street performance thing", theater, TV, Film, caberet etc and the work opportunities they might present.
All these industries use skills based performers and often employ funny people too.
If we can get the attention of a few casting agencies, they may start to put up some good stuff.
The general discussions about aspects of auditions would quickly make dubious producers think twice about what they post.

But surely we have to define a gig as a paid performance, not a chance thing (sic). Does no-one else see the difference between "come and play in my back yard for me and we'll invite some friends around" and "I'll give you a fee, billing and a crowd"???

Love the idea of getting professional Variety gigs posted! But I'm dubious. Unless the section was placed AHEAD of busking gigs, it could put Agents et al off to see that there are so many who are willing to perform for free,(to the venue)in those locales like Faneuil Hall, The Harbourfront, Ghirardelli Square and so on who have the ability to set aside an entertainment budget.
Also, maybe it should be called Professional Gigs. I hate this audition bit.
They shouldn't be necessary for professionals who have a track record. Kelly.

The interface to the site is complex enough that I don’t think you would want to add additional complexity by introducing a hierarchy to sort out gig opportunities into sub categories. After all, the Gigs threads only get a couple of posts a week at best, so I don’t think it too much trouble to read all the posts on the thread and consider those which are appropriate. We all know how performer-types have lots of time on their hands anyway...
