    Member Piccies?

    Jim,

A lot of the graphics/warez/etc forums I visit/hang out on have the ability to display a photo/image in the Author column,
usually under the Member status text. Is this facility available with your current UBB set-up?

Provided they're no bigger than say 100x100 pixels and optimised jpgs the download time shouldn't be increased that much and it would add a cool visual element.

Only consider if it's easy to implement as I can imagine how much time this baby is demanding from you. Keep up the awesome effort!

I was thinking about it, Dom. We'll see.

I know you and other HTML/WEB savvy folks would keep your graphics tight, but all it takes is one person to upload a 500k 640x480 digital camera image to screw up the entire layout for everybody.

Until I find a way to control the type/size of image, I'll hold off on that.

There are several cool hacks available for the UBB, but I'm finding that they don't work with this version (the latest). I need to wait a few weeks/months until the NEW, updated hacks come out for this version of the forums.

    I'm always looking. Be patient.

    Jim

P.S. There are two different flags for Aus and NZ. I went in and sharpened them up. Make sure you reload when you get to the page with the icons. The new ones are crisper than they were last night.

With UBB on, you can add pictures as much as you want, tho? As long as they are hosted somewhere else, it should be cool (and they aren't too big! It still slows down the loading process for those with smaller pipes to the internet)

      GOOD

      LESS GOOD

          Thought as much..

No hurry though, and you're right re pic size control. Thanks for the speedy answer. Now we know who those of us without immediate family Xmas duties are..

Nice photo Adam. You've probably never heard of him but you look a lot like John Fealy (in the bottom one). Believe me it's a compliment, John's a very funny man..

              It's easy.

              Open Photoshop.
              Open the file you want.
              Go to the Image Menu
              Choose Image Size
Make the image size small 1" x 1"
for internet viewing 72 dpi is fine.
              Save as jpeg.
              Upload to a server somewhere.
Post the pic using UBB (see instructions on this site)

I don't think many people will start posting graphics in the messages, but if you do, keep them:

                Maximum: 400 pixels wide
                Maximum: 72 DPI
                Maximum: 25k

And animated gifs are evil and severely slow down these forums. Please don't post them or I'll delete them.

It's just a matter of being considerate to others with 56k modems and smaller monitors.

                Thanks,
                Jim
