    reading new messages

    Jim,

Is there a way to read just the new messages posted since your last visit? The "daily topics" link only does it for ONE day, the present one. What about for five days, etc?

And is there a way to go to just those specific messages without having to page down each category and read several older messages?

    Chance

    Thread order within a Topic:
I can make the messages in each Topic go from top to bottom (first to last) as they are now, OR I can have them go the other way... more like the old boards, with the newest message on top. I'm getting tired of scrolling DOWN, too. I'm going to ask everyone what they think.

    Topic display within the forum:
I'm sure you've noticed that the topic with the latest post jumps to the top of any Forum list. I was annoyed at first, but now I think it's the best way to browse the forums. The lastest topics that were posted to go to the top, chronologically, and the folder icon changes to red, showing that there's posts in there you haven't read. I'm finding this very convenient. This way, old topics with no new posts, just drop to the bottom.

    Daily topic view:
I have no way of changing that to more than one day. And, yes, you'll need to browse each link to read what is actually new. I'll look into it further, but I may have to hack some code or something.

(I didn't want to bring this up yet, but there is a "Digest" option I can use. I could make the Forums compile all the day's posts and EMAIL them out to a specified mailing list. This would deliver the days posts to everyone in email format. Then you can come back to reply or start a new topic as you wish. However, this would require a bit of daily maintenence on my part and I think I may need to set up a subscription fee of some sort. More on that later...)

I think I'll let it go for the weekend, and then I'll change the thread order so the newest posts go to the TOP of the thread, instead of the bottom. That way you only need to scroll down to the post you hadn't read yet and then scroll UP to read the posts in order.

    I'll take any differing opinions....

no don't do it, I am on sevrel lists that email out the new posts and you end up with a mail box full of junk (do you want Trever filling your mail box every day???)

If you do do it however, count me in, I can delete Trever.

I think it would be a good idea to have the newest posts on top instead of scrolling....*ugh* I too hate scrolling.
