Sennheiser evolution G2 or G3?

I'm upgrading my wireless mic from an ancient Sennheiser evolution 100 to a newer Sennheiser evolution. My question is, what are the advantages of G3 over G2? I read that it's diversity, which makes the signal more reliable. Is this worth paying more for?

I can walk into a store and buy a brand new G3 for $750 or I can get a used G2 for $450 (from a filmaker so hopefully fairly well looked after). I really want to buy one mic to last me for the next 5+ years. Anyone have some helpful advice? Thanks!

I have both, and honestly can't tell the difference.... except the new one has an orange screen, instead of green...

I like new tech though, and would always go for the newer version...

Thanks Russell, I feel like brand new and newer version is the wise choice but cheaper is so tempting right now. Sennheisers do seem to last. How much longer will a new one last than a used one? With all the radio frequencies getting blocked out it may be a matter of time before everything goes digital anyway.

G3 all the way!!

I thought I should answer my own question on here since I now have the answer. I did get hold of an used G2 sennheiser evolution camera set but it didn't work properly so I relented and forked out for a brand new G3 from Long and Macquade.

I love the G3 over the G2, purely because of the increased sensitivity setting range. The older models have only a few options for sensitivity settings (-30 to +30 db or hz, whatever, in 10 step increments). However, the G3 has 2 step increments from about -50 to +50 (can't remember exactly right now because I don't have it with me and it's late but I may edit this later).

Basically, the extra sensitivity settings allow me to get the balance between volume and feedback just right - on any sound system. Getting enough volume out of my mic without high levels of feedback has often been a problem with my mic setup in the past. So if this is an issue for you as well, I'd say don't hesitate to fork out for the improved feature on the G3. My 2 cents. Hopefully it helps someone.

Does anyone use the lapel mic for there street shows?

I have always used a headset, but I'm willing to try the lapel before buying a headset that suits sennheiser.

I also wouldn't recommend using the omni-directional that (usually) comes with the set. get a cardioid if you really want to use the lapel.
