Busking in Australia - Portable Gear

I'm an Australian harmonica player, and have busked for many years in major Australian cities and festivals.

I use a home made battery operated rig, with backing tracks and do pretty well. To see the rig, and hear what it sounds like, go to

G'day Tony, from across the Tasman

Looks like a good set up you have there, I want to something similar with a Sax. Would a Digitec Jamman work on your system which is 9 volts ac?

    Cheers

Unfortunately for you, Digitech didn't make that looper able to run from battery power. Stupid really.
You'd have to add in a small inverter in the system to turn 12v dc, into 240v AC, then use your regular power pack to run the digitech.
That's the off the shelf way to do it, but probably an elecronics expert could put something together that would convert 12v dc into 9v ac directly.

Thanks for the info there Gav. Hmmm........ first I gotta make good use of the Jamman looper and get a busking shedule up & running, then find an electonics expert.

Cheers from NZ,(getting cold here) how's Zagreb

            G'day Nick from New Zealand.

Loved your stuff & things, esp the mime!

I intend to travel with some sort of PA system as a Saxophone busker and can see great comedy potential in your street theatre, for me.

I also have a Jamman, an Ipod and Mini disc. I'm really at the exploritory stages of figuring our what I can come up with. I sort of want to have a conversation via the sax with the PA, which could be very similar to how you are using it. I will be travelling and performing mostly solo at this stage, and see it on street corners or at fixed places like a circle show. I also have a monologue that it could also be used in.
The Jamman has the added advantage of building onto the loops as you go which could be great for both the street and cafe performances.

Saw Adam Page in Wellington (http://www.adampagesolo.com/home.html) last Feb, brilliant use of a Looper & Mic.

I intend to also play solo sax at cafe/resteraunts as music entertainment, so a PA system for me needs to be small as I will be travelling mostly by recumbent in the UK and Europe (hopefully next year)
I will get back to you when I'm further down the track.
            Thanks for the inspiration.

            Cheers & Ciao
