    Posting large props In Australia

I would like to send a few hoops up to my cousin who lives in QLD but i am having trouble finding the right way to do so.

I have read that in the US there are various methods you can post them which end up being well under $15.

At all of the places i have tried the hoop is either too big or they want to charge around $40+ per hoop which makes me think i' looking in the wrong places beacuse that just doesn't sound right.

The hoop is 60" in diameter and the pip used is only 3/4 of an inch thick the hoop is also quite light.

So i guess what I'm asking is has any one got any tips on posting props within Australia, With out breaking the bank?

    Thanks,
    Blue

In the USA I send a 12 pound hoop via US postal mail for about $17. UPS and FedEx cost more.

Bear in mind, the USA has one of the cheapest postal services in the world, too. It's less expensive to mail EVERYTHING here.

    Good luck!

Ok We do have FEDEX but it only ships to international locations not locally which doesn’t help.

DHL were trying to charge me $40 which is ridiculous.

Some how juggle art manages to send them though australia post but i can't for the life of me work out how.

$40 is not bad at all. Think of it as taking an extra box or bag on a flight and it begins to look very reasonable.

Looking another way, spending $40 in order to make 100 times more on the other end also looks like a reasonable investment.

And if it only costs, say, double that to buy it, then they should just go ahead and do it then you have props at both ends and you never have to think about this ever again.

Hmm Maybe i was not clear enough.
              Here is some more detail.

This is not a prop of my own this one of many hoops that I make. I wish to send one to my cousin in QLD and in the future i am thinking about selling some from my website so this is kind of a test run.

The problem is that although i don't mind paying $40 to ship a present to my cousin i don't think any one would pay $40 in shipping fees to by a hoop.

Also I feel as though there must be a cheeper way to ship it especialy seeing as there is no rush for it to get there. It is also not very heavy at all and is not really that big. Heck i have had unicycles shiped to me for less than $40.

The hoop it's self costs lest than $40 to make and i have seen other websites with shipping fees well under $40.

If it's an aerial hoop, they will indeed pay that and more. I'm not sure what kind of hoop you mean, but if you can make it for less than $40 you can sell it all over the world - around here, aerial hoops retail for over $200, often as much as $400.

If the shipping fee scares people, build it into the price of the item.

And if you're making aerial hoops that you can retail around US$100 + shipping, I'd be happy to list you as a source on my website, because people often end up paying far too much but they don't know how to work with a metal shop themselves

Nah, it's a hula hoop type hoop so it would be no wear near the weight of an aerial hoop.

I would total expect to pay $40 for a aerial hoop to ship, Thanks for the offer though.

juggleart in melbourne sell a hula hoop for $30 and send it for free so there must be a way.
Australia posts online estimate system doesn't seem to work properly. When I enter the size as 100cm x 100 cm it says that exceeds the maximum parcel size of 105cm x 140 cm ? Wierd !!
For 60 x 60 x 2 under 500 grams, the cost is only $5.40 from brisbane to perth.

60 inches is pretty big for a hula hoop

Yeah it was looking at juggle arts prices that had me really confused.

The australia post website is no real help i was having the same issue as you did and so far i always get the cranky post office lady when i go in so that doesn't help much either.

Thanks for having a go though. I'll report back if I sort it out beacuse it is a bit of a puzzle.

Oh and it is actually 35" i get so mixed up with imperial and metric conversion. Boo.
