Device to Transfer VHS to DVD?

I have older circus videos that I want to transfer to DVD to be able to watch and use them...I'm doing research and finding out that -

    - Apparently I need to get a separate device that bypasses copy protection, and that works best if it's a VCR and a DVD burner, not one machine that does both?

    - Apparently many of the devices that burn from VHS to DVD have problems with the sound not sync-ing up?

Anyone have any experience with this?

    Thanks!

You should be able to do it directly from a computer. If you're using a desktop you can pick up a new video card for it for roughly the same amount you'd be spending on a machine to convert the VHS tapes. Depending on the new video card you can hook your VHS player into it and then record from that to your hard drive and burn the DVD's however you like.

    Like This.

I've been out of the technology world for a while so if I'm stupidly over looking something people can point it out but I think that's what you want. I don't know how tech savvy you are but if you want help then just PM me the details of your computer and I'll try to help find one that works for the right price.

You could also get an external capture device like this

It takes the analog signal from your vhs player and converts it to digital signal to record onto hard drive, then you burn onto dvd.

capture devices are becoming more popular. you can go to a consumer electronics store and ask them which one is right for you.

another method is to hook up a miniDV camera to your tape player using the video-in port (some cameras have them) then, import from miniDV to computer
