    limo advice

    does anybody know ???

my Limo has an American plug, everytime I charge it in the rest of the world I use a voltage converter, this is a weight in my kit i resent.
Do I actually need to use this converter. So many of my appliances are dual voltage, is the Limo one as well???
I have never been brave enough to try.

Also, does anyone know where I can get a 15V adapter anywhere in the world except Canada or America. Ive looked all over for these things but I never come up with one

Sometimes I disconnect the battery from the limo and use a normal 12V charger and charge it that way but taking the screws off always pisses me off and once I blew up an amp this way as well by connecting the terminals wrong in a blind lack of coffee morning showday stumble.

I just want the weight of one adapter and no risk of a meltdown...

    Specs from Crate Manual

"POWER REQUIREMENTS Internal 12 volt DC power supply
DC adapter for use with 120VAC
    Optional 12V vehicle lighter adapter"
No mention anywhere of dual Voltage (220)

more than likely all you need to charge your Amp is a 15V DC source......

it doesnt matter if that 15V DC comes from a 60Hz,50Hz, 110/220/240V power supply, as long as the output is 15V DC.

in saying that, all you need is a 15V DC transformer, preferably a 50/60Hz,110-240V one (to work anywhere), and the pin adapters (usually about $5-10 each..... depending on were you go, youll need one for europe, US/Canada/Japan, OZ/NZ, UK, etc.... you've probably already got these anyways)

you can get the transformers from dick smiths here in OZ/NZ for about 30bucks, any decent electronics shop will have them.

just make sure you check what current (mA) requirements the Limo needs.....

youll need a 15V DC output from the transformer, and the current should be as close to the one stated on your Limo..... else bad things will happen!

      hope that helps.....
it sounds complicated, but its not really!

the voltage converter is not needed, and the dude who sold it to you either didnt know jack about electronics/ or wanted to cash in on the fact you didnt know....

<edit>i forgot, you need to make sure the "plug" on the end of the transformer fits into your Limo. (the ones at dick smith come with about 10 different heads, you just choose the one that fits - making sure to get the +/- right!)</edit>

remove the battery, leave it out

I have removed the battery and bracket from my crate. The power leads are hanging out the back of the amp so i can reconect the battery when I am using the amp.

I have a 12v charger with clips that go straight on the battery terminals.

I ended up doing it this way because i couldn't find a 3rd party adapter kit that fitted the charging sockets in the amp properly.

Its quite handy having the weight of the battery sepparate from the bulk of the amp unit.

          15volt dc adaptor

In the UK I pick one up from "Maplins". Tend to buy about 1 a year, since I keep misplacing them. The battery inside is 12 volts so poping it out and charging it with a car charger would work as well. I power my wireless mic reciever from leads out from the battery which could be used to charge with a 12 volt source I'm sure.

          Have fun.
