    Joke File

How do you file your jokes, routines, ideas and material?

I have been using a combination of index cards, notbooks, and word program to work out the order and keep back up files.

Has anyone created a database joke file to be able to cross reference jokes, ideas and themes to pull up all the jokes your have created on a subject?

Is there a software system already existing that one can purchase or find somewhere?

If not, can we collectively work out what you would want to see in a program like this and find one of us savvy enough to create it for us all to use?

I could make it if you guys figure out some features that you would use. I find index cards are pretty good.

index cards are good for the writing, but wouldn't it be great if you were able to just type in a subject like grass and everything you have written about grass in all forms would come up: from lawn references to drugs, to gardening...
I think it would just any easier way to pull all jokes you have written on a subject to better routine them and save time in finding your jokes.

I tell all my jokes to Scot, later, when he steals them and @?#!s them all up, I go, "Oh, that's what I should do with that"

Seriously, Google desktop will do that. I keep all of my jokes in my head, I have punch lines and premises written on scraps of paper and in notebooks, but those are all notes, not jokes really. By the time I wind up actually writing a joke down on the computer, I've already told it about 200 times, and I just sharpen it up with the writing. I think organizing your head is more useful than organizing your desktop, but that's also my "Workflow".

          clever idea...

I suppose a primitive version could be made using a word processing file and appropiate tags -- that makes the whole thing searchable

          Like this

          date created

          joke title

          text

Two horses walk into a bar...

          variations

          related to ( cross reference)

          tags

          e.g. animals, Alcohol, farms,

            I'm on a mac

I'm still trying to figure out how to do this better. I'm demoing yojimbo right now. you can download the 30 day demo and when you install it, it will give you a little screencast video.

It's a way for quick adding notes, adding tags to them and searching through the things.

Because I never know what kind of bit or show I'm gonna try to put together in the future, I can use this to search for jokes and keep them all modular and in one place. THere are a few programs like this eaglefile, devonshare and more, but I can't really tell the difference between them.

Yojimbo can also password protect your notes and clippets.

Kinda frustrated right now, because all my jokes are in an excel file and I want to export them as seperate notes. Haven't figured it out yet.
