will a nalgene bottle work ok for fueling up torches with lighter fluid?

I'm trying to apear more pro with a new fire extinguisher, fire blanket, and a container system for fueling up the torches rather than just squirting them with the squeez bottle the lighter fluid comes in.
I bought one of those metal fuel bottles for transporting the fluid in to the show. I figure I can use the nalgene for soaking because it has a wide mouth.

yup...nalgene bottles work well for fuel...

Buy a new one when you travel with your show...you do not want to travel by plane and long distance train with a fuel soaked bottle that will forever smell of fuel and have fuel residue..

Get a wide mouth container you can DIP the head of each torch into. Don't POUR the fluid onto the torches... it's wasteful and looks unprofessional.

The wide mouth Nalgene works fine for transporting fuel, too. You don't need to carry a metal container for transport AND a Nalgene for dipping. I used a single nalgene container for years back when I did fire.

And definitely DO NOT try to board a plane with an "Used, but Empty" fuel container. If the security guys smell a whiff of fuel you're busted.

the secret is empty and wash, then fill with water all the way to the top. You have to carry a bunch of water in your luggage, but you don't have dangerous fumes or the need to purchase a new one.

Those things cost like 5 bucks...is it really worth going thru all of that trouble to wash rinse wash rinse let soak...all for the 5 dollars you will save...I am sure you have heard the age old "Time is money"


For your home town and anywhere you are driving you have one that you will not have to wash or rinse.

When you travel to avoid any possible risk or residue, travel with no fuel container and no fuel.

When you arrive to your gig location, usually a day ahead, go buy your fuel and the nalgene type bottle.

Leave it behind with another performer or dispose of properly when you leave.

If you are not making enough that you can not afford to spend the 15$ total that this will cost then the gig is probably not worth it for you to do.

not always so easy to find

I've met a lot of performers who have turned up in some european counrty looking for the right type of fuel container, and trust me they're not always easy to find in a foriegn land. Best to bring the new or clean 1 with you.
Cleaning properly with some washing detergent and scenting with something would be the least wasteful and more enviromental thing to do. God knows there is enough wasted plastic clogging up this planet already.
