    Mics & Amps

    Hey all,

I'm currently inthe process of moving from a walkby show to a circle show following my time in Singapore. Am looking to get amplified, what would people recommend in terms fof Radio headsets and amps?

    All the best

I would recommend searching the forums, the topic has been covered quite extensively.

      I'll make a few suggestions...

When I was searching the forums for the same info I found it took a while to track things down so I'll try and synthesize for you. As far as amps there seems to be four common types. which I will list from smallest to largest.

Fender Ampcan - 15 watts is not very powerful. If you don't need too much sounds and are travelling a lot it'll do. If you want to use volume to attract people in a noisy area this isn't for you.

Crate Taxi - A very common choice with 30 watts (though I believe there is also a 15 watt jobbie out there). A good middle ground as it gives you some power without being too large, you can go to the crate site for size info (look up the URL yer damn self, I think it has to do with St. Louis music).

Crate Limo - The model I have with a skookum 50 Watts which is big enough for most pitches, as far as I know. I got it cause I don't lug it around much and didn't want to be caught short on power. I have yet to need all 50 of those Watts and given the size of your gear and your slim frame this is probably more than you want.

Fender Passport - The one you used in Singapore. I believe it comes in 150 and 250 Watt varieties and we used the 150 in 'Pore. I can't imagine you need one of these Owen, but I've heard of people using them. I believe Bendy Em carried around a 250 for a while then got something much smaller.

Unfortunately this is a North American perspective and these might not all be available in Ireland, and of course the price will be more than I pay here.

I'm lazy so I won't mention anything about mics because you are a magician and I am a juggler so we have very different needs.

It was nice to meet you Owen. Please be careful when paying your way through school as a street performer. I have two bachelor's degrees, have worked as an engineer, and am now solely a performer. It has a way of taking over, but does leave more time for filmwork and other hobbies.

          Thanks for the help folks.

Stickman ended up selling me his Crate Taxi amp when he left Dublin last week. I think he'd had enough what with the van burning and all, who can blame him. He's off to join Todd Various in Florida from what I gather.

Anyway, now looking for a mike. Not sure wether to go headset or lapel. I'm closing the show with a straight jacket and so not too sure which would work best for that.

          Cheers

          Owen

            mike

            Headset.

            Clearer sound. Less power used.
No brushing against your costume noises.
