Can anyone direct me to a site that will tell me in plain English how to get the music from a CD in my PC on to an MP3 Player or Minidisc player or whatever I'm going to buy?

Transferring music from a CD to your computer's hard drive is called 'Ripping'. There are lots of software programs available at places like Staples for $20 - $30. This is a website that explains about ripping: mp3radified.com
I downloaded my music from iTunes. Each song was 99 cents and they were already in MP3 form and very easy to transfer to the MP3 player. I used a $20 MP3 editing program and so set up my soundtrack with the songs fading in or out. I only wanted the introductions or fanfares from some songs and was able to cut and paste all that just how I wanted.

Get winamp. Google it. Then, put in your cd and rip it.

it seems you have the software I need to edit my mp3 files for my ipod...can you email me the software and where i can get it?

The Editing software is called MP3Editor and it's made by Data Becker. I got it at circuit city and it cost $20. I think there are loads of different software titles that will do this in the $20-$30 range.

I use a program called Audiograbber, which is freeware. In order to use this, download it from http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/download.html and install it.

Pop your CD into your computer then click on the MP3 icon [looks like a c-clamp] once Audiograbber is open. Make sure that the "Direct Rip and Encode to MP3 File" radio is selected, as well as the "Use ID3v1 Tag" (checked), and "Internal Encoder" is selected. Hit "OK".

Then open the Settings menu. On the top, click Browse to change the directory your music will be ripped into. Choose something like "C:\Busking\MiscMusic" Or somthing you'll remember.

Then, just hit the Grab. Depending on your computers available resources and processor speed and CD speed, the process should take about 10 - 15 mins. It can be longer. Once it is done, you're all set to drop them into your MP3 Player. If you need any help with that, email me at stanto61@msu.edu
