Using a foot locker as a stage

I have seen several performers on the street standing a top a footlocker. I bought one myself today from the store and I'm worried about it being able to hold me up. Does anyone have a recommendation as to how I could make it stronger? I was going to mount some plywood under the top and run a shelf up the middle for extra support. Am I on the right track?

They're probably not standing on foot lockers, but flight cases (google anvil cases). But, unless you are incredibly obese, the thing should hold you fine. Have you tried maybe, I don't know, standing on it?

      Standing On Foot Locker

Don't buy the cheaper kind. You get what you pay for. We have several cheap foot lockers purchased from Kmart type stores. Serving now just as at home storage. They don't travel well.
They are not strong enough to allow for standing on. Just OK if you sit- carefully. .
If you bought a better quality, you probably can stand on it, but your reinforcement idea would be a useful addition, apart from the fact it will add weight.
