Torches

[Tyler]

I was wondering what kind of torches people use. I am looking at getting some for street performing. I'm thinking of getting Dube Classic torches or Infinite Illusion ones, both of which can be viewed at www.seriousjuggling.com. If anyone has any feedback on these particular torches or advice on something better, it would be appreciated.

The infinite illusion are built a little more durable than the Dube torches. The metal goes through almost to the end of the handle. i have went through about 5 sets of dube torches because the snap at the neck.

just my opinion though.

Right now I personally use Todd Smith www.toddsmith.com and they have been good to me.

However, it has recently dawned on my that any prop not made by Renegade (www.renegadejuggling.com) is not worth owning.

Henry's torches are my current fav. They might not be the toughest, or the heaviest, but they flip great. They flip just like Henry's clubs. The handle goes around the wick, so it's easier to catch ( Dube's pivot near the center). I do a lot of triple singles and high throws and sometimes you loose track of which end is which.

To answer your question, everyone has different preferences.

From my experience:

dube classic-- best for swinging, not juggling. Nice weight but wood handles are not much fun to catch if your doing triples / quads (etc) or passing.

dube deluxe- HEAVY

infinite illusions- nice weight / feel, but a bit flimsy

henry's- EXCELLENT torch. A+

Renegade- The torches I use. Most people either love 'em or hate 'em

Other torches

I just looked at the serious juggling site and saw the mister babache torches. Has anyone used them? What did you think of them. They are cheaper, so I may get them.

Ok, this is my last reply on this before I just cut you loose, Tyler, to do what ever the hell you want.

If you are a hobbyist, than buy your props based on price. However, this is PERFORMERS.net, so I assume you have some lofty goals of making a living by getting up in front of people shouting "LOOK AT ME" and then dazzling them. If that's the case then you really shouldn't buy something because it is cheap. Cheap props are generally crap. There it is. You get what you pay for. (Of course, in the long run, cheap props are really expensive because you have to replace them, and thus spend double the money.)

The Babache torches are crap. The handle is flimsy and the center weight overly heavy. But think about it:
they are imported from switzerland and after tarifs & shipping they are still cheaper than the domestic products. That's because they are crap!

There it is, my 2 cents. Buy whatever you want.

p.s. correction: cheap JUGGLING props are generally crap. MAGIC & ILLUSION props, are a different story.

A thought

I would say that magic and illusions that are cheap is übercrap. Always buy better (more expensive mostly) props - you will give the prop the time it takes to control and master it because you payed half a fortune for it, it usually takes some damage without breaking and the cheap stuff - as previous writers have told you - suck.

I myself use dubé torches and will never again buy them. They are heavy and spin like crap (even though the cost you the fortune I told you about). Though I like the dubé knives and would never change into anything else because of the weight and the looks.

So, if you are gooing to buy a set of torches; this is my recomendation:

Go to a juggling store and try all the torches thay have. Try to find a set that have the same feel as the clubs you are using. If they havnīt got any, go to another store. Buy the ones you like - no mather what they cost.

Good advice, except that there are no juggling stores near me. The local magic store has a set of torches I've never heard of, and the next closest one is in another city, I have been there but I don't think they had torches. That's why I seek advice.

Actually, as I was preparing to get some, my mom said I wasn't allowed. Ah well, maybe I'll order some and send a friend's address as mine so I get them there. Muhahahaha!

WELL I've got news for you young man. remember your cousin Clinton Beaumont, the one we hardly ever see because he lives in Florida in the swamp in a hollow tree. Well I've talked to his parol officer and we think it would be a good idea, since you have no intention of furthering yourself at school, that you go down there and help him stuff Flamingos for the tourists until this whole, 'Juggling' thing passes and you move on to satan worship or boy bands or something normal.
