    Crate Taxi Charging...

    Hey there...

Anybody out there use the 12volt charging option with the taxi?
Is the red "chargin" light supposed to come on when you charge from 12V? (as is does when charging from the mains?)

Is 12V 12V? or is NZ 12V likely to confuse a US bought taxi and 12 volt charger?

    Cheers - Kim

    Hi kim,

not entirely sure, but have been doing a lot of twelve volt stuff lately. I think the light should come on and yes, 12 volt is 12 volt. no ifs or buts. where did you get your 12 volt taxi charger as I sure as hell could use one. did you plug it in when your van was running or stopped? have you tried other 12 volt things in your cigarette lighter, such as cellphone etc, to check that it actually works?

I don't use a taxi amp, but i put together my own systems and am quite good with electronics.
Are you using a cable that is supplied specificaly for the taxi amp or something you picked up elsewhere or made yourself?
If it's the latter, you could be having a polarity problem. Simply meaning that the negative and the positive wires are in the opposite configuration that the taxi works with. Standardy it's the hole in the plug that is positive and the outside is negative. You'll need a multimeter to test which way round your cable is wired. There should be a small symbol next to the socket on the taxi that shows which is positive and which is negative.
        Hope this helps.

          read the manual

it won't charge off of the 12volt. the 12v plug is only there for a batery backup.

If thats the case, then just remove the battery and hook that up to the cigarette socket. When I'm on the road, this is how I charge my 7amp and 20amp gell cells.
You've got to be doing some long hauls though to get the full charge.
