    music composers?

    If a regular joe blow needs 7 min. of music to go with a silent show, how is the composer payed?

    You can get rights to off the shelf music fairly easily for performance purposes. Places like:



    will do a "buy-out" license rights to music for a very reasonable amount. Now, whether or not they have anything that you like is something else. But, there are lots of outfits like this one on the net.

      It also depends WHERE you perform. I work in clubs / cabarets that have DJ's and cover bands. The venu has payed the ASCAP fees so I am free to use the music of ASCAP artists.

        Am I way off the mark by thinking that after a certain age music loses its copywrite ?
        Would 50s Mambo still be in copywrite ?
        I also use music by "the Garbanzo Negra" , a really up for it mad circusy Galizian punkish Ska band, and as I know th bagpipe player I use it for Free/good feeling
