    amplified music that sounds GOOD!

having gone through various home made and shop bought systems in the last 8 years i yet again need to update.
we play music for routines and also use radio mikes when neccessary, but what is most important is that the music sounds "full" and can be heard without distortion.
At the moment we are using a car battery, amp and two JBL speakers but i am sick of all the wiring pre show.....
we have been reccommended the crate limo for a combination of realistic pricing and yellowness.....
anyone else out there made a great affordable PA discovery recently??????
Much love you lot, I am sewing sequins and waiting for the sun....

    Morning, Em.

I am a former taxi owner. I sold mine to Nick, which was a handy sale, as I had forgotten it at Edmonton at the time, and do not have any chords that long.

People like that amp, but with the taxi, you get either yellowness or full sound. The full sound is made by the taxi "Limo", which only comes in boring grey, and is available at about 370 US here.

We just bought one from them, and when it arrived damaged, they paid to ship it back, and sent a new one, no problem. Consider the limo, if you are making music. Its a sweet unit.
Best of luck with the sequins.

      Em,

Not having seen your system, I can only say that my system only really began to shape up when I made two important discoveries: incredibly small and practical 12v 2-channel amplifiers, and gell cell batteries. The 7.5 amp-hour battery will run my system for about 5 hours, and can accommodate up to 4 speakers since I use two of the amplifiers linked together.

      Here is the system:
      One 7.5 amp-hour gell cell battery (12v)**
One Battery charger appropriate to same**
      Two 2-channel amplifiers (12v)**
      One 4-channel mixer (9v)**
One AKG brand UHF wireless microphone (3v)**
      One minidisc (3v)*
Two 3-way, 120-watt JBL car speakers (in home made boxes)
Two 2-way, 35-watt JBL box speakers

(Anything marked with a star fits together in a very small case; 2 stars indicates that it runs off the same 12v power source.)

I pair up the speakers (120/35) with each amp, and the sound is great no matter how big the space. In smaller spaces it sounds amazing, and quite often I use just the 120's.

Hope this gives you some food for thought.

      Chance

        Cheers Taxi!
yeah it was Nicky boy who reccommended it....

i have been scouring the net for a site in the UK that sells the Tx50 but having trouble, maybe I'll get in touch with crate.....

(grey's fine, I'll only cover it in bloody sequins as i have done everything else.....I had an old peavy that i stick mirror tiles on years ago but they kept cracking and cutting my delicate woman hands.....)

Otherwise maybe some gullible friend from overseas can pick one up, throw it discretely in their busking kit and meet me at my truck at glastonbury, not only will i love you for nearly forever but you might also get a meal and beer/earl grey tea........

        hmmmmmm?

I used a taxi and thought it was pretty good. Then I upgraded to the Limo because I wanted the CD imputs to play my recording between shows. The Limo had a phantom distortion that I tried to get fixed. They couldn't fix it and so I went back to the Taxi. The guy in the music shop said he'd seen a bunch of Limo's come through with similar distortion problems. It would seem there might be a defect in the manufacturing. Maybe some others have had the same problem?....

If you're playing music, the best amp I've come accross is the AER COMPACT MOBILE ( sold in some countries under the name AER TRAMP). It hat two main inputs with two and three way eq, phantom power. and builtin reverb. It also has an fx loop for an additional effect device and rca inputs for CD player. It's a German amp that was designed to reproduce acoustic instruments. It costs about US$1000 but its worth it
