What's the word on the street about wireless mic systems in australia? I heard that broadcast radio and television formats were changing and that new laws were being set for wireless microphones because of that. I'm looking to purchase a sound set up and I want to make sure it will be valid in the modern world in far off places.
Wireless mics down under.

Your info is correct. New digital TV broadcasting interferes with older radio mikes as they share the same frequency. New mikes are supposed to avoid the problem.
I'll have to look into it to find out more. Dom or David Cassell would probably be able to give you more details, I suggest you drop one of them a line..Every-one should watch their drawers!

Classically illustrated by Space Cowboy picking up Triple MMM last Sunday when turning his mike on.. Funny! Guess you had to be there..
Most of us here in Oz (and probably elsewhere) are slowly making the change from VHF to UHF. Those of us with good quality, dual diversity UHF lapel or headset mics are having no problems as yet although it's still early days. Most favoured brands currently are Shure & Sennheiser and you're looking at about a grand. Shop around as prices can vary dramatically from store to store as J-P discovered last week..

In my case I use an AKG system (VHF) which comes with 15 channels. It is not as compact as it could be if it were just one of those portable camcorder microphones, but at least I have options some guys don't have. But I would only recommend getting anything similar if, like me, you are constantly changing countries. If your habit is to stay more local, then a new camcorder mic (eg, Shure or Lectrosonics) should be just fine.
