    training rats

my girlfriend and I bought two pet rats today. I want to train them to do cool party tricks. Any recomendations for resources?
I'm not going to use them in my show, so the PETA contingency of the board can keep the sock in it.

put plastic knives in your mouth and balance mice on the knives.

I have a book around here somewhere, author name of Manx or something similar, from the early '50s. In it he writes of a sideshow performer who swallowed rats and then brought them back up at will.

Good idea, except the part abouiit keeping them out of the show. Teach one how to carry a little bucket of water, and put out your torches at the end.

I now have my army of rats getting my mail, mowing the lawn, doing the laundry, cooking dinner and answering my email. This book is GREAT!

The only drawback being my wife left me and the folks at PETA have been eyeballing my house. Luckily, I have also attack trained my ratties in various martial arts disciplines.

I once bought a white rat that was originally meant for snake food. It immediately jumped on the snakes head and tore in. That rat became one of the greatest pets ever. She was potty trained, an escape artist, and a compulsive weed thief. If someone had weed she'd let you know. She even came to her name. I didn't do any training. She came out of the box this way.

I should train them to go collect money from the back row.
I once saw a video of an acrobalance guy with a rat who would walk to the end or each limb and back while he did hand stand and wierd contortions. It was amazing.

                  April is on the way

See if you can get one of them to do your taxes.

                    Fancy that

                    ... my accountant is a blue-spot Siamese.

I got her from the American Fancy Rat and Mouse Association.

                      good training book

"don't shoot the dog" Karen Pryor.

Is now available in paperback. Should be enough to train any rat, anywhere.
