Embedding promo vids

Up until now I've just been hosting my video on my website as a download. It seems the cool thing these days is to have an embedded player. Does anyone know anything I can use to embed my video that looks classy (i.e., not youtube or google video.) I guess something that doesn't water mark your video.

It would be nice to still host it on my site so I can control it. Is this possible without knowing a large amount amount website construction.

embedded flash videos are def the way to go. I'm making my own.

I'd recommend http://brightcove.tv/ . They have great flash encoding -- better quality than youtube -- and there are buttons included for sharing the video with friends.

vimeo is pretty good from what I have seen and it supports HD

I honestly think that youtube is the way to go. Having people watch the video on your website will bring your "views" count up in the youtube rankings, which (I think) will bring you up the list when people type searches into youtube looking for entertainment.

People these days really do (starting to) shop for performers on youtube. The Blue Angels booked a friend of mine after doing a youtube search for comedy magician on youtube. They called and said, "sorry, we can only pay $x", which was 30% more than he normally charges. He might get to go up in one of the planes!


I'm starting to think about video sketches that are specifically designed to get massive traffic on youtube, just to bring up my hit counts on other videos in the channel.

I personally think hit counts on you tube are a waste of time. I think embed your own video on your site however you choose to do it.

I think that it is rare to get a gig like your friend did thru youtube...I think that these markets are changing so fast that what is hip today is obsolete tommorow. Look as myspace.com

built a fan base thru it, but then everyone tried to do it and most people failed.

Maybe YouTube will be able to get you a viral-video if you create something witty, or funny or get caught doing something stupid.
but as a way to market your skills and have your website use youtube encoder i think looks awkward.

I think having fun on youtube is alright, and I think creating sketches on youtube specifically to boost people seeing you and to be funny but I think then point them to your site, let your site promote you where you have complete control over the product.

you can put your promo also on you tube for the world to see hoping that some great gig may come along, but find a player/encoder that works with your site.

Greg, you are the biggest consumer of youtube I know. You corrected my spelling on one video. Anytime anyone posts anything about me the first thing I think is "Greg Frisbee will probably find that within a week".


well, I do see your point, but.... I don't think it looks bad on my page, and it loads on mobile phones; and I personally have had people pull up my website on their cell phones and watch my video after meeting me someplace random. I'm not sure how many of the other ones do that yet; I would go check, but I'm lazy.
the whole cell phone thing is another reason to stay away from flash. (I HATE fully flash websites)

I do LOVE youtube, dont get me wrong...

I see nothing wrong with having your promo on there and hope that it gets tons of hits and i hope that we do all get jobs out of it, I have my promo on there too.

I just do not know how many people go searching for entertainment there...maybe I am wrong.

I still think the videos on your actual website should not be a link to youtube though but should rather be your own encoded player.

what happens when the you tube link suddenly does not work anymore for whatever reason?

and its true, I probably would find it in a week or less ;o) , because I am always researching what is out there and I have nothing else to do late at night.

p.s. you are right that some issues have come up with fully flash sites displaying on mobile devices...that was unforseen, I am going to be adding an html mobile browser page to my site.
