Getting postcards printed on the web...file?

I need a new batch of postcards printed, but I'm running into the same problem as before -- getting the right kind of file that a printing company will accept.

How do I make my files ( word, jpg) into files they accept?

Do you want them to end up as a pdf? If so openoffice.org has a free downloadable program that will let you export your files into pdf.
