    Myspace as professional advertising...

So I'm finally on myspace -- several people have said its THE way to connect with fans. We will see...

what's your display name? I did a search for Big Fun Show, Dave Walbridge, and Pro Comedy Writing and don't think I came across your page.

The problem with MySpace is that you're essentially locked into crappy, uninteresting and hard to read layouts. It takes a lot of modifying and customization to make it look even partially professional.

Most people just have crappy looking pages, some have their web designers take a crack at it, and others, like John McCain, steal other people's templates then don't give credit where due, resulting in public embarrasment for them and a vague public misconception that some hackor gave him a time.

yeah, for some reason fans will contact you ten times more often and give you way more feedback on myspace they they will on a normal web page.... but it only works for certain demographics, at least in marketing terms. If you are marketing to an MTV type demographic, then myspace is practically a must. Otherwise it's just an annoying way for your friends to email you. (having to log onto slow ass myspace to get a message from a freind asking if he can borrow a movie is sooo f'n stupid, use real email!)

as far as the layout goes, who cares. Your primary online marketing tool should be your real web site, and the basic myspace template will do the job of keeping your face in pop culture just fine.

I deleted mine because girls kept sending me fan mail and making my girl friend jealous.

I deleted mine because too many slutty girls in their underwear (who are all really lonely because they've just broken up with their boyfriends) wanted to be my "friend" because I'm a really hot guy.
Well, maybe I WILL just keep telling myself that.

myspace is fine, but just like anything, it's only good if you use it well.

Dane cook used it well by promoting it after every show. At this point, you could prolly do better with a normal website, but anything is worth it at this point if you put a lot of work into it.

myspace in itself will do nothing for you. With a small level of commitment, it will waste your time.

Rachel; you can go on again soon. They just started implementing practical spam blocking strategies and I think it will be very low spam in a month.

                this is really it:

somewhere in your options you can specify a custom url, but you can never change it.

                mine is http://myspace.com/jugglegood
