    email vs. snail mail

    so y'all,
when contacting agents or events in this age of modern technology do you go with a blind snail mailing of hard copy promotional materials or do you send a promotional email introducing yourself and offering to send hard copy if the person/event is interested?
i just thought it would be interesting to see what people are thinking.
myself i lean towards the old fashion route.

On the rare occasion I actually try to get a gig these days, I still go with my old school method of snail mail+phone call 1 day after sending- another phone call or initiating email contact.

I usually do it 50/50 if it is in the states i will mail a postcard and follow up with a phone call, then discuss me sending out promo.

With international, I contact via email first and then with the responses mail out hard copy.

I have not found the ideal way to do it...I am not very strong at cold calls.

It's good to get a feel of what they want and who they are. Talk to them in person or on on the phone. Then, you'll know what kind of promo they want you to send, maybe they'll just check your site while you're on the phone, or they might not be interested. It will save you time. It's important to always be ready for whatever they request - as in, have a video, resume, etc. on your desk ready to drop in the mail.

Normaly I call first find and out if there looking for entertainment then I will mail out a hard copy of my promo or send them to my web site if they prefer that. Their are times I email instead of call first when I cant get their phone #. I rarely get a response from a email with a phone call I at least know where they stand. I guess I feel like its a lot easier to ignore a email than a phone call and package you get in the mail.

Me myself, i do that both.
Emails are not enough, as some times your email may be delivered in the junk-box. So if you depend only on it, it will be useless.
A hard copy or a flyer is a great way, little expensive, but the people still like to keep those things as a reference.
Both of emails and snail, are completing each other.
