    Your favourite website?

So, who has the best performer websites in your opinion? ( looking for inspiration and things to show my graphics dude )

    My favourite:

I also like the Raspyni's, though it doesn't work properly on linux firefox. And Owen Reynolds and Spot the Drop.

Jon Wee and Owen Morse are a comedy juggling duo known as The Passing Zone. They specialize in corporate events, and speak on teamwork, collaboration, innovation, and excellence, while creating laughter and standing ovations.

Scot performs juggling and unusual skills on camera. He learns and coaches actors in fun skills too. Hollywood uses him most for his rapid lessons and development of circus skills in Los Angeles.

I like the Raspynis where it works. But it really should work on all platforms ...

And I like the look of the Passing Zones, it looks very professionally made, but I hate the "mystery meat" navigation and find it very difficult to quickly find what I'm looking for or move around the site ( I have been told this is A Bad Thing to an agent/producer who is doing six things at once while the phone rings. ) The main thing I like about the Feeding the Fish site is that it is very fast and easy to find anything from anywhere, while still looking very professional. I wish the photos popped open larger versions though. I also like the multiple video format options.

      Thanks for the other links.

            Why?

I made my site in the late nineties.
It's a rambling mess of content cul de sacs.
Its ego driven rather than market driven and that's its disadvantage and to a small number of weird clients, an advantage. (overall it sucks)
i wouldn't use it as an example of design because as far as I can see it lacks it.
I like the feeding the fish site too because its clean and functional.
The Raspyni Bro's site appears to be cunningly designed to attract its share of the homeland security slush market. Thats effective. Thats showbiz. That's 2 houses in the country.

All the flash intros in the others simply waste my time. I want to know WHAT YOU DO. Show me a vid and show me it fast and if I'm an agent don't throw fluff at me beforehand. Fluff is for the punters.

And as for the Christian mime's I have no idea what they have against epileptics. They seem to presume that a strobe induced fit might just be the door required to let jesus into someones life. The difference between speaking in tongues and flayling around until you bite off the end of it seems to be lost on them.
You can turn the light on and off all you like, its still just two dudes in whiteface.

Dark sites have their place...I'm making one now. Easy on the eyes, nice contrasting.

Light sites seem to be more oriented towards validating business conducted on the site. Corporate stuff...with sluggish db's.

                  If you must know...

                  Mart,

Your site holds interest primarily through the design virtues of good subject matter for the photos, and writing that sends a clear message. The mix of understated humor, as in the brain graphic at the "consultancy" page, is a good mix of business and comedy.

I'm not a blind fan of the site. I can't stand to scroll sideways, and would diminish the font sizes on the productions page. I'd lose the blues in some of your text, and get more uniform on font choice. Yes, it's an old design, but it's still a solid example, I think, and one of my favorite performer sites.

Scott, yours is way cool, but make the words fit inside the wheel windows: you're asking too much of the reader there. The fish: cool look, but they need to use way less verbage, much bigger font, and choose either a picture or text, not one atop the other. No non fans are reading that, the way it is.

I agree on the flash front, and the KK mimes are just asking for trouble with their name, way, way too cute on the strobing. I'll spare further commentary, but I was reminded of a George Carlin (I think) quote to the effect that he liked Jesus well enough, but couldn't stand the guy's fan club.

Torres' site is a good example of a lot of information without a clutter feeling.

                    look elsewhere

If you're going to show your graphics dude samples of websites you should look outside of juggler's and magicians websites. Look at the most successful, highest paid performers on the planet for samples. The best sites I've come across, hands down, are designed by Kurt Noble at www.kurtnoble.com. He does Dane Cooks site, probably the best "performers" site, or any other for that matter. That would probably cost you 20 grand though...atleast.

                      kurtnoble.com didn't work for me

I really like Jim's webpage. it loads really fast, looks clean, and has a ton of stuff to look at. I think it's great for a street performer because a lot of the web traffic is from fans who probably are curious about the person behind the product, or want to extend the experience of the show they saw. The web page will help people remember the show they saw and who performed it.

I have a new design up. www.globalevan.com . There is very little content up so far, and I don't like my pictures because they don't actually represent my show very well. Jonathan Burns is doing my promo work now.

                          sure.

Evan, I do like your new site a lot. Jim's got a great site too but in an effort to be simple and clean and easy to use it's seems to me to be missing a little of the "show" in showbiz. Of course you don't want that at the expense of being useable by a potential client. Finding that balance of course is probably the way to go which maybe he has.

So, what was it about the Kurt's sites you guys didn't like? C'mon, Dane Cook's site is so bad ass.

                            new site

                            Evan,

I do also like the new design much better than your old one.

Thanks Frisbee, I like it too. As soon as I get new studio shots I'm going to like it a lot more.

Josh, Kurts site just doesn't work. It loads the first page and then there are four squares that don't do anything. Mabey it's a mac compatability issue. if it is it still means a bad design.
